Every video game has moments that you, the player, will remember for years to come. These moments are so special that they can touch each of us in a very different way; all of us will have different iconic moments, but they are iconic nonetheless. In this thread, we'd like to see what your favorite moments from King's Quest history are!

One of the most iconic moments, for me, is the mansion from King's Quest 4. That whole sequence of the game was so scary for me as a kid. I was so afraid to play that sequence alone when I was younger; the colors and the atmosphere just set this eerie mood. To this day, I still try to avoid that sequence XD

So what are your most iconic moments, Questers?

I have so many it is hard to pick. Everyone knows about the scorpion, my run in with the troll in KQ8 so I am going to say this time that the most Iconic is Etheria. That place was so cool in my opinion and to finally get there was awesome. I remember getting stuck with the three fates and trying to free Mab. I am always careful at that part now and after studying Mythology in College, I really don't want to tick them off any time soon either.  :P

For me, it was meeting Samhain in KQ6. The description he gives of his life, the poem of the gauntlet, and the explanation by the narrator of the mirror's reflection were perfect. That's my favorite section of the longplay to watch. (Part 17, if you're interested. It's also linked in my signature.)

Oooooh, cool topic, DD! :D

I'd have to say the flight to the Realm of the Dead in KQVI.  I remember staring at the computer screen as Night Mare's mane fluttered in the wind, and the sky darkening and getting all spooky and eerie, and thinking, "Wow.  This is amazing!"  It was so incredible because it was that scene that really got me to realize and appreciate how talented game designers really are.  They obviously didn't have as much to work with then as they do now, so seeing what they could do with so little just blew me away.

Another scene from that game that really captivated me was the scene where Alexander and Cassima talk through the wall.  Of course I was all :lovegoggles: googly-eyed :lovegoggles: and smitten from the romantic aspect, but it really is a brilliant scene.  It's so symbolic: so close yet so far away, wanting to reveal your feelings but having a barrier...plus the split screen is pretty awesome!  I always liked Cassima's dress. ;)

"Alexander?! Where are you?"
"I'm here, behind this wall!"
My, how suave that sounds!

;)
So what if I am, huh? Anyways, I work better when I'm drunk. It makes me fearless! If I see a bad guy, I'll just point my sword at him and saaaaaaaaaay, "Hey! Bad guy! You're not s'posed to be here! Go home or I'll stick you with my sword 'til you go, 'Ouch! I'm dead!' Ah-ha-ha!" Ha-ha. *hic* See? Ain't no one gonna be messin' wit' ol', Benny!

The little girl in me will always love that first glimpse of the unicorn in the flower-covered meadow with the twinkling river in KQ4. Loved it! So much! Everything was gorgeous about it.

I think for KQ3, the opening shot outside of Mannanan's house is pretty iconic. As is his laboratory.

For me, the moment that personifies King's Quest is the "detailed" version of Graham marching across the screen in front of the KQII logo while Greensleeves plays.  Nothing else says King's Quest like that.

Outside of that, I think the music tends to very iconic.  You have Greensleeves, the many beautiful themes in KQIV and V.  And those spare, dark notes that play when Alexander's ship sinks and the words "King's Quest VI" zoom out on the screen still gives me goosebumps.

Doing push-ups in KQIII  :P

Ok not really, ummm I think the unicorn in KQIV and the Weeping Willow in KQV are the main moments I remember from the KQ games as a youngin.
"Hi Rosella. The bad guys captured me as a kid and I couldn't figure out what was going on until you saved me a few years back. After all your efforts, I couldn't even stay out of trouble for one day and the bad guys got me all over again. My mind is easily warped, so I had no self-control when I turned you into an ugly troll. Then I almost blew up the world with this volcano..."

It's one of the punishments Manannan inflicts on you. You do push-ups, sit-ups and jumping jacks, iirc.

Another iconic moment for me is the opening to King's Quest VI. Sure, cut-scenes these days are 20 times better, but I prefer the style that KQ6 used. The very fact they got that to work on a floppy disk, to me, is amazing. I prefer the enhanced version though, as it has full voice over. And come on, that narrator is plain awesome.

As for music, while Mask of Eternity may not be everyone's favorite game, I have to give credit to the music; I just love MoE's soundtrack. It's beautiful, dark, and well composed in my opinion. Please note that I am in no way a musical expert. I own only about 1000 songs total. A lot of people I know own like 20 times that.

"Alexander pulls out his magic map."

"Something is really starting to percolate!"

"What was it, when I looked at you?"

Classic. :)

"The rocks are silent, as they have been for ages untold."

"Taking off your adventurer's cap so soon?"

And finally, while not technically a "moment", it's memorable nonetheless: the opening jingle of almost every Sierra VGA game. That's how you know you're in a for a good game. If that animation and jingle appears at the beginning of your game, you're in for an experience like no other. Classic.

The most iconic moments in KQ? In no specific order....

1) Getting on the pirate ship in KQ3 and sailing to daventry.  Walking through burned out daventry was also incredible. To find out at the end alex was royalty, I was shocked. It made all that hard work worth it.

2) Getting inside of the temple in KQ4 and getting pandoras box, and also the night time sequence.

3) Watching the KQ5 introduction in VGA when it first came out 1990. This was mind blowing. Entering the mountains was an awesome sequence as well.

4) KQ6 . It's been so long to remember how I felt about these games. They were almost 20 years ago for me.
I would say for some reason the last fight with alhazred.

 Ugh, it's true!  I was a wee lass of I think six years old when I first played KQ6. :X

I was 13 I think when I played Kings Quest 6. Philippa got it for her birthday along with all the other games. I didn't know at that point there were any other games that 5 and 7. I was slow back then.  :P

Maybe you just thought it was like Star Wars and didn't start at 1. :P

For some reason, the moment that comes to mind right now is from the climax of KQ5.  It's when Mordack says "What the ... what did you do to my wand!!!"  See, as soon as I figured out that I was going to mess up Mordack's wand, I was eagerly looking forward to his reaction, so that was actually the biggest payoff for me in the entire climax.  If there were a "which mythological archetype describes you" quiz, I might very well turn out to be the trickster.

Speaking of being a trickster, I also love the fake death used to fool the genie in KQ6.
