Wouldn't it be interesting if she started the anti-bending rebellion? then again, something tells me she's not the one who did, but who knows.

Well, the new series is taking place seventy years after the defeat of King Ozai. So if there is any connection, the time frame would need to be spot-on. But, I have a feeling that the new series would be loosely based on the old series due to bringing in a new audience. There might not be that much of a connection at all. It's hard to say.

I just want to find out what happened to Zuko's mother. I think that's the only real loose end from the original series...
Same here. Unless you count Longshot, Smellerbee, the Dai Li, and... But what happened to Zuko's mother is the biggest of all loose ends.

"Did Jet just...die?"
"You know, it was really unclear."

The creators confirmed that Jet died. But no one knows what happened to Longshot and Smellerbee. Since they didn't show up at the invasion or at the end, people say they drowned when the Dai Li destroyed the secret lair. Or did they?

I always figured he did die, but I found the comment made during Ember Island Players pretty funny :)

I remember seeing a video from comic-con a few years ago where they said that they had written up the whole "reuinion between Zuko and his mother" scene and had the storyboards but just decided to not go through with it.  I really hope it's addressed in legend of Korra, it'd make me a very happy Avatard.
"Hi Rosella. The bad guys captured me as a kid and I couldn't figure out what was going on until you saved me a few years back. After all your efforts, I couldn't even stay out of trouble for one day and the bad guys got me all over again. My mind is easily warped, so I had no self-control when I turned you into an ugly troll. Then I almost blew up the world with this volcano..."
