Just letting you guys know, this Saturday I am starting a 'let's play' of MOE, I know that a couple of people have already done it, but the one I watched wasn't very good / very annoying . I will be doing the Let's play with 3 friend who have never played Kings Quest, so that should be interesting. For more information feel free to visit one of my social networking pages:

I'd like to see someone do a Let's Play of the game that actually likes the game, and hear their opinions. Or an interesting debate between someone who doesn't, and someone who does.
Well, ya, King's Quest is on Earth. Daventry is very old city from a long time ago. It's in ruins now and people aren't quite sure exactly where it used to be. There are some archaeologists searching through the ruins, they think they know its Daventry. But its somewhere on Earth."-Roberta Williams http://kingsquest.wikia.com/wiki/File:Daventryisearth.ogg

I'll be getting to it eventually.
So what if I am, huh? Anyways, I work better when I'm drunk. It makes me fearless! If I see a bad guy, I'll just point my sword at him and saaaaaaaaaay, "Hey! Bad guy! You're not s'posed to be here! Go home or I'll stick you with my sword 'til you go, 'Ouch! I'm dead!' Ah-ha-ha!" Ha-ha. *hic* See? Ain't no one gonna be messin' wit' ol', Benny!

I'm just going to move this over to Gaming Talk; we'd like to keep any discussions pertaining to Mask of Eternity to that board. I plan to check this let's play out. I haven't seen many on youtube, though I admittedly haven't looked very hard XD

That would be interesting, especially since we're all jaded since we compare it to the other King's Quest games.

Speak for yourself! Actually I'm one that does like the game. It's probably in my top 3-4 KQ games, at any given time. I felt it was moving back in the direction KQ6 had set in dramatic and serious story telling.

Yes, the combat and 3D is very different. But I knew Roberta was going to do that direction back in 1995. So I wasn't really all that surprised how it turned out. There is always room for improvement, but it could have turned out worse.

But I personally won't do a let's play.

I've got to see this when it's finished. I refuse to play this game without God Mode and some high level weapons. It's hard to imagine someone playing this through without cheats. But, then again, I suck royally at all video games. XD

CHEATING FTW! Seriously, I'm a huge cheater... And I see no shame in that!

The combat and whatnot aren't actually that bad...You can easily get through it without God mode and powerful weapons. The combat system is very simple and easy, and was probably made so to make the transition to combat easier on adventure gamers (who'd likely not be used to combat in computer games).

The game is easy on hard mode. Seriously.... Healing items are everywhere, in high quantities. It is not survival horror.

On easy mode almost every enemy dies in one to three hits. They do little damage as well.

It's easy if you're any good at video games. Without "turtle-tipping," I never would've beaten Super Mario Bros on NES. Cheating is the ONLY way I can beat most games. MoE, especially in the Dimension of Death, is always difficult for me without cheats, so I don't even try without God Mode anymore. When I play KQ games, I want King's Quest, not battling. That's why I've always been highly critical of that particular game.

Ok you a nutz! In order to make an analogy you use one of the most difficult games of all time. NES games in general were designed much harder than modern games... Super Mario and MOE have nothing in common.

Seriously MoE is just 'click a couple times' then enemy dies. It doesn't require agility... There is no agility in the game. Combat is slow, enemies barely injure you, and with potions/health you are practically invincible.

In DoD you can kill most enemies with the bow, from a distance or even before you open the gates to the next areas. You need not even get close to the enemies.

My point being that even games that EVERYONE has beaten are a major challenge to me, without cheating.

Believe me not everyone had beaten super maro bros... That game is madly hard... Don't even bring up lost levels.

On a side note I had slot more trouble with timer based puzzles in KQ wolves, Yeti, etc. Or the ones you had to type something quickly before they reach you.

Don't get me wrong Baggins.  I think MOE had a lot going for it.  But besides Graham's one scene there really isn't much tying it to anything King's Quest.

Graham has three scenes actually. He is largely the catalyst of the adventure and the reason Connor goes on it to rescue the 'royal family'. It also has the magic mirror from Most of the KQ games strangely absent from KQ5 and KQ7.

I also consider the fact you are exploring a new area of Daventy only mentioned previously in the KQ1 and KQ2 manuals and novels, a town of Daventry.

Valance even makes an appearance in Castle Daventry and Connor even acknowledges her and the need to save her! As part if his motive for saving the Kingdom.

Several characters including the cursed unicorn, refer to the great kingdom of Daventry ruled by the benevolent King Graham and his family for many years. She even is one who asks you to go check up on the Royal Family and rescue them.

I'd argue KQ3 has little to do with previous KQ games other than a few scenes here and there. Many people refused to play the game or quit early when they thought it had no connection to the previous games in the series.

I do think when you are dealing with a storyline where the entire premise to the story is that evil forces have turned all humans to stone including the royal family, there isn't much you can do with the characters that have been turned to stone. The game did it in the only way possible by having Connor visit the castle and discover the fact that they have turned to stone, and then learn a little more about his for through the magic mirror, before the mirror goes dark from black magic like in KQ3. There isn't many ways to interact with a a rock.
