I remember that when I read the Hobbit I had no idea that the one Ring was so dangerous.  It took the Fellowship of the Ring to show that the ring was dangerous.
Wow, this thread is already a very hot topic.  LOL  :>  Kidding hee, hee, hee  (Boys can be mischievous sometimes)  Also, I have decided to lighten up a bit on the somber and somewhat depressing topics as of late.  Have a great night.

Problems with American society?  Let me talk about problems with American society (and this will probably get somebody offended, so feel free to not read this!)

1) We're freaking blood mongers!  I mean, seriously.  Not enough people dying in the Middle East already, let's go in and bomb Iraq because we think there's the possibility they could...what...kill people?
2) Speaking of that, how much money did we spend on this war on Iraq that was over the supposed existence of biological weaponry?  Well, AIDs is killing more people daily than Hussein could've managed if he'd had *any* biological weapons...couldn't we have put those billions of dollars into research for that?  Or cancer?
3) You're right.  People are FAR to objectified.  You know why?  Because if beauty is important, people make money.  And since money makes the world go round, people send all their time trying to make beauty important so they can make a quick buck off of an unsuspecting, unthinking customer.
4) As I said before, people are oversensitive.  Like I was saying in the other thread, people think the word "rebel" is racist at our school.  Even though we have no connection to the Confederacy.  We're in New England.  Our colors are blue and white.  In fact, the name is actually supposed to have to do more with the rebels that we were in the Revolutionary War.  Is there any racist connotation other than the fact that one group of rebels during a brief part of history had slaves who happened to be African?  No.  And yet, it's a huge controversy.
5) Don't you think the media broadcasting all the details for all the places terrorists might attack and then saying "Let's hope terrorists don't attack" is going to give the terrorists ideas?  Its like..GEEZ.  Common sense, people!  No, that's the biggest problem with America.  No one has common sense.  Think once in a while!

Okay, I think I'm done.  For now.  I mean, I could go on, but I don't really feel like it.

That's why I invited people not to read it, Kimmie.  Please carry on your LotR discussion.  See, I couldn't really participate in that because I live under a rock and only saw the first one. :P

Kimmie

get out of that rock...into a video store and rent the two towers, then just wait a little while for the final one to pop along...

Praise the film, love the film, be the film...as for me im off to battle the evil orcs...or wash my hair- either way its a major task that should be dealt with caution and plenty of equpitment, may it be swords or shampoo...

It amuses me that Kimmie could be, at this very moment, washing her hair with a sword. :P She's going to come out of the shower very much closer to bald than she's ever been in her life. :suffer:

Kimmie

:suffer: well i hav washed my hair...but thankfully with the shampoo. however i did use a type of sword..its called a razor...ah silky smooth legs. I suppose shaving my hair off could be practical coz its coming up to the summer months...but then again, nah i like my hair to blow around in the wind making a mess of itself.

(reads Questie's rant) Have I mentioned yet that you rock like boulders, and, um, roll like cheese, Questie?

Anyhoo. As for LotR... I read the books a few months before the movies came out, then ended up seeing all the movies. And, well... I like the movies a *lot* better.

For one, the movies, by necessity, kept the stories more focused. The books went off on a lot of weird tangents, which had little to no relevance to events going on. Yes, creating all the details of a given universe is almost a requirement in keeping things feeling real and consistent. But that doesn't mean you *show* all the details... you only use the ones relevant to the tale you're writing. Am I the only one who quite frankly was glad to not have Tom Bombadil in the tale, for instance? :P

Then there's the singing. I never actually read any of the lyrics in the books, I must admit... and why? To me, lyrics by themselves are just too dry. And having all that singing in the movies would have felt to me to be ridiculous. I enjoyed the way the movies handled singing... reasonable length, tasteful and pretty/fun, and relevant to creating atmosphere.

Then there's the description. Ordinarily I find the fact that movies just *show* you things to be a detraction from the books they're based on. In this case, though, it was a blessing... because wading through LotR's five pages' worth of describing a tree got tiresome really quickly. :P

There are some things I miss... I agree with some of the detractors out there that the "Scouring of the Shire" was an important part of the story, and is missed. But you have to be realistic, too... the movie ending already felt like it had too many parts, and the movie itself was already long... where would you fit it in? Lord of the Rings IV: All the Stuff We Couldn't Fit in the First Three? (shrug)

Tolkien was aces at creating a wonderful milieu, and an intriguing plot. But actual fantasy writing? He's not a hack by any means, but I've still read it handled better.

OK, the Tolkien fans can roast me over a fire, now. ;)

Peace & Luv, Liz

It should be on an extra DVD in the box that will contain the three movies on DVD. 8)

WOW. There was a huge contraversy on the forum, people got offended, threads got lock AND I WASN'T A PART OF IT! I wasn't even AWARE of it! See? I'm getting better at these things 8)

As for the LOTR debate, I watched the movies but I'll reserve my comments until after I've read the books. Carry on ;)

I was referring to the feminism/offenses/problems in current american sociaty debate from the "More Dragons" thread (and a bit here as well). I missed it and it was mentioned here so I posted here instead of reading the 7 pages of the "More Dragons" thread to find out where it was :P

Don't worry, Say... there wasn't much of a contraversy there anyways, and apperantly the thread wasn't locked. I was just exaggerating to make myself look better. I do that quite often  ;]

storm-there wasnt such a big contraversy bcoz like adults we kinda settled it, we let it go, we let it flow.

talking about rhyming...this god dude came up to us last night and randomly started rhyming things religiously at us, it was very strange.

Harrison and I both liked Sam. ;D

I just liked the fact that Sam was brave, loyal, and determined/steadfast. The sort of fellow who'd follow you into Hell, drag you back out of Hell and hot water when it got to be too much, and cheerfully fry some eggs for breakfast over the flaming brimstone while he was at it. ;)

That, and Sean Astin is dreamy. Too bad he's married. ;P

You're right, Q... I should stop exaggerting. Or at least take some lessons from you on how to do it better ;)
