Actually, that's Latin: Nox, noctis. Noct- is the true stem.

"Night" and "Nacht" are definitely related though. :) The O.E. is niht (W.Saxon neaht, Anglian næht, neht). The PIE is thought to be *nok(w)t-. :)

 I knew you or Delling would have an answer. ;)

I was just going to point out that "anocht" and "oiche" in Irish are both also related. :P

Mmmmmm... pie!

I thought the same thing.

I know OE is Old English, but what does PIE stand for?  Prehistoric Indian English?
I have my cake and eat it too, until it's gone.  Then I can't do either.

Aww!  You have the Sword of Hugging +3!  All of your attacks deal affectionate damage!

Proto-Indo European: the reconstructed ancestral or root language of the languages of Europe, India, and Persia (Egyptian, Arabic, Hebrew, Aramaic (all being what are called Hamito-Semitic languages), Basque, and Finnish (both being of somewhat questionable pedigree) are not descendants of same)

Also, we have a very similar reaction to encountering that abbreviation. XD :P Mmmmmmm... PIE! (because information on Proto-Indo European is a tasty tidbit, a tasty morsel, not unlike a piece of PIE... I'll stop now)

Sad news today for us 90's kids who grew up watching wrestling--Macho Man Randy Savage died of a heart attack while driving today.  :'(  Rest in peace and give Owen Hart the smackdown for the fun of it, Macho Man. <3

By the power vested in me, I call this thread back from the Netherrealm. Rise, thread, RISE!!!!

In all seriousness, I revived this thread for the following reason: A trailer for the new Thundercats series from Cartoon Network has appeared online. I admit, it's from April, but I didn't know that. I just saw it five minutes ago. I'm impressed, honestly. I plan to watch the premiere (which means asking my manager not to have me close grocery or dairy for one night) and render my final judgement then. The reboot of the Thundercats premieres at 8 PM Eastern on July 29th on Cartoon Network. Oh, and a fun fact: Larry Kenney, the original voice of Lion-O, is voicing Claudius, Lion-O's father, in the reboot. I'm very happy that they gave him a part.

Considering this thread has been inactive for some time, I've decided to un-pin it. If anyone would wish me to re-pin it, speak now or forever hold your peace...
