Well, the one thing that I think each episode has been doing so far is to give us the backstory of a particular character.  So thus far, no, the show hasn't answered the big questions.  It just gives little hints here and there.

I do like the backstories though.  Felt kinda badly for Dr. Hopper/Jiminy Cricket.

Backstory is important, no doubt. But every episode has been running in place. Henry ran away from his home to find his biological mother, so that he could save the fairytale characters from the curse. But while the show only "hints" at the possibility of Henry's accusations (for instance, James feeling a connection to Snow), it still provides the doubt that this kid could be making it all up and has a wild and active imagination. I think I am annoyed that the writers of the show are playing both fields. I still like the show, but at least make a decision. Is this kid crazy or not?

QuoteI couldn't tell what the mayor was holding in her hand.

A shard of glass from the glass coffin.

I knew it was glass, it was hard to tell what was at the bottom of the mine shaft. At first, I thought it was the magic mirror, but the glass coffin makes sense too. It still doesn't confirm or deny Henry's assertion, it merely "hints" at it.

I definitely thought it was part of the mirror....

Okay, i think last night's episode made it pretty clear the fairy tale life is at least partly true.

It pretty much confirmed that the fairytale world is real. I now take back what I said about the show. I was just worried that they were going to continue to make the fairytale world's existence more and more ambiguous. I think they are on the right track now, but I also hope that the evil witch doesn't kill anybody else. The sheriff/huntsman was my favorite character. Between that, and Michael Pitt's character being killed off of Boardwalk Empire, this week was a bad week for television.  :'(

I really liked the Sheriff/Huntsman! ;(

But glad they confirmed the fairy tales are real, and that the Mayor/Queen definitely knows that! Of course, Graham never outright said to Emma "Henry's right", but hopefully what happened and what he did say will be enough to convince her a little more.

I think the more the citizens of the town begin to remember their past, the more she'll be convinced. Didn't Graham practically convince Snow that it was strange how they don't remember ever meeting each other? She might be the next one to remember.

Maybe...I think Snow remembering would be a season-finale level thing. Because her remembering quite probably comes with realizing Emma is her daughter and Henry is her grandson, so, there's a whole lot more tied to that!

True, but at least realizing that her world isn't real (and that her fantasy world is) would be a small step in the right direction. I feel Graham's character was almost rushed in this past episode, clearly due to his imminent demise. Not only did he remember his past, but he figured out his entire story and tried to achieve his happiness. Unfortunately, he was unsuccessful. Snow's story, as well as many of the other characters are much more drawn out in both worlds. We didn't even figure out who Graham was in the fantasy world until the recent episode. It shows that the writers did not have much interest in his character's potential. Or they just used him as a sacrifice to show that the fairytale world is real and to keep people watching.  :-\

KatieHal

Yeah, it did feel rushed, which was unfortunate. And yeah, clearly due to that being the case. It was good to get that confirmation, though.

I don't think we are done with the huntsman just yet :)

That's awfully optimistic. I don't know what the rule for death is in this show. Technically, in the first episode, James/Prince Charming was slain by the Queen's henchmen, and then was transported to the real world in a coma. So who knows what this means for the Huntsman.

Deleting the spam post here reminded me this thread is around :) So, are we all still caught up with the two new episodes?

These two didn't captivate me quite as well as the first half of the season. But I am still enjoying it and next week's looks good!

I agree, the new episodes didn't manage to pull me in either. The first episode had pretty much built off of the semi-season finale (or break, or whatever they call it). Still, seeing Emma become the sheriff was a welcoming comeback in her rivalry against the mayor. Also, it's nice to see that Mr. Gold still has a deep hand in whatever is going on. Ceases to amaze how intrusive his character can be.

The newest episode didn't really interest me. It seemed like a filler episode. Yet another group of characters that have not be introduced before followed by there fantasy counterparts. Not to say they didn't try, at least. We did get to see where the evil queen gets the apple from. But it was still a bit lackluster. Now the mysterious biker that rides in to town is going to be next week's topic of discussion.  ;D

Ah, the show's started up again? I don't have a television to tell me when seasons pick up again, so I usually go by hear-say on this stuff. I've rather been enjoying this show myself.

Kind of funny, but when I saw this thread pop up, I had to skim through the whole thing just to see if anyone was commenting on Sheriff "Graham" yet. Putting a guy called Graham in town full of fairy tale characters - I thought that a rather clever nod. :)

crayauchtin

See, I like the more episodic episodes. Sure, Hansel and Gretel were not people we'd met before but they DID have an effect on the overarching story, and I enjoy seeing the interplay between the various fairy tales.
I mean, Mary Margaret recognized Emma's baby blanket. Don't think that's not going to come up again, it will.
And aside from that, when the cop car stalled out Emma's "dammit" was more of a "dammit, Henry said I wouldn't be able to leave" than anything else.
Both of them are starting to get that something is not right in that town, pretty sure.
Personally, I can't wait for Mary Margaret to get as tough as they made Snow White.

Agreed.  The back and forth with David needs her to get tough again, I think.  I just hope this love triangle thing isn't too drawn out.  But I kinda think with Catherine missing, if she's found, David is going to feel guilty and go back to her.

See, I don't think Kathryn would go back to David after what he did. However, the gym teacher that Kathryn bumped into in the hallway is the guy that noticed she was missing from her car. And the gym teacher, is also the guy that played Abigail's (Kathryn's fantasy counterpart) lover who had turned into gold, Frederick. So I have a feeling that the gym teacher will find Kathryn and be her knight in shining armor (no pun intended). Thus, making David's and Mary Margaret's trysts somewhat guilt-free.

Ah, the story is beginning to be a bit predictable. But August W. Booth is still a strange one to me. I'll need some more time to figure out his agenda.  :-\

Hmm, true.  But he'd maybe try to go back to her out of guilt.

I'd like for her to end up with Frederick (or his real world counterpart).  But then again, the queen/mayor might try to keep them apart too.

She tried already. She was trying to keep David and Kathryn together, and keep Mary Margaret out of the equation. But then when she found out that Kathryn was leaving Storybrooke, she was so supportive. The fact that Frederick was the one who stumbled upon her car means there's a bigger picture that is unforeseen. If the Hansel and Gretel episode has shown me anything, it's that Henry is right, and nobody can leave Storybrooke without some kind of a divine intervention. The queen might try to keep everybody apart, but aside from Operation Cobra, there is some kind of force that is pushing everybody into the right direction.
