Good settings for an adventure game

Is there any location, real or not, that you wish were the setting of an adventure game?

One place that I think would make a good setting for an adventure game (particularly of the Gabriel Knight variety) would be Keelung.  Keelung has the following things going for it -

1. Dramatic scenery - jungle covered mountains, the ocean, etc.  Particularly the scenery around Heping Island, which has unusual geology.  I've heard that Keelung island also has great scenery, but I have never been there.
2. Speaking of scenery, Keelung itself is a very 3-D city, with the harbor and all of the hills - if you get lost in Keelung (not hard to do) you could find yourself speding a lot of time on twisty staircases go through various alleys.
3.  The port.  I happen to love looking at cranes - I think they look like dinosaurs.  I realize this mainly a personal preference.
4. Military - Keelung has many forts, some of them old and historical (Ershawan Fortification in particular is fun to explore), and some of them still very much in use, which means you cannot visit them without a military clearance.
5. History - Keelung has been attacked/invaded/occupied by the Dutch, the English, the French, the Chinese, the Japanese, and if I recall correctly, the Spanish (maybe the Portuguese too?), but some of the indigenous inhabitants are still around.
6. Markets - the Keelung Miaokou Market is one of the most famous things in Keelung, and it deserves its reputation.  Some of the other street markets in Keelung are also interesting.
7. The caves (Xian cave and Buddha Hand cave).  They are atmospheric, and if anyone made an adventure game in Keelung, they ought to work those caves into at least one puzzle.  Xian cave, supposedly, was once inhabited by fairies.
8. Buddhism.  Keelung is a very Buddhist city.  One of the most visible landmarks of Keelung is the giant statue of Guanyin, a Buddhist deity (the statue is hollow; visitors can climb inside the statue).

And finally, the thing which most recommends Keelung as the setting for an adventure game:

9. Ghosts.  Once upon of time, there was a major, violent clash between the clans who run Keelung.  They were so scared of the ghosts of the people who died that the clans made a truce just so they could appease the spirits.  So, up to the present, clans (who still control the city to a large extent) put on a big festival once a year in order to keep those ghosts at rest.  Perhaps one of those clans would hire a Gabriel-Knight-esque character to do a job for them...

So what places do you think would make a great location for an adventure game?
