Hi I recently graduated with an animation degree and was wondering if wondering if any of the Phoenix Online animators would mind answering some questions I had about the games industry, and working on mods.

I currently only have access to the student version of Maya but am interested in doing volunteer animation work on games or mods to gain some experience. Would I be able to use the student version of Maya to do that? (it's the 2012 version Autodesk hands out on their student site). I'm also interested in buying the full version, but can't really afford to bite the bullet right now. Since you work remotely for Phoenix Online I'm guessing you had to provide your own software, where did you get the software at?

As well I had some workflow questions. When receiving an assignment, what kind of approach do you take to planning it out? What kinds of things do you have to keep in mind in terms of engine limitations or anything else? When you finish the animation, what kind of process do you use to implement the animation assets into the game?

Thanks for your time.

Sincerely, Sean

Hey Sean,

Why don't you apply and see how the pipeline actually works? :) We are looking for Volunteer to help with Ep 5

 Hi Waltzdancing,

Thanks for the reply. I'd love to apply, but I'm still trying to figure out my options regarding software at the moment. I was hoping one of the animators here would have some suggestions on if buying the software is worth it or if I should just work on my reel and try to get a job without any applicable industry experience.

I'll see if I can find one that can help you out :)

Sorry to bother you again but I decided to buy the software and apply at Phoenix Online and was wondering if there was anyone I should address the cover letter too?

Just send it on over to the jobs email address. :)
