I just read this news from Kotaku and Gamma Squad: the next Xbox may not play used games, at all.

Which means huge slaps in the face to the buying and selling and playing of used games at all levels, from GameSpot to GameFly to loaning a game to your friends.

I think it's an awful idea. Your thoughts?

I think this is just a bogus rumor.

It'd be a totally ridiculous decision for Microsoft from a business standpoint.  Sony would just do the opposite by keeping PS4s non-restricted and they'd absolutely DESTROY Microsoft in sales.

This is not going to happen.  Mark my words.

Yeah I don't think consumers will stand for that, and the system could bomb big if they did something like that.

Bludshot

I doubt that, but I am afraid we'll see more restricted content that can only be accessed if you buy the game new, like Dragon Age and Arkham City.

Absolutely obnoxious.

What game was it that Capcom made/is making for the 3DS where you can only run on one single save game?

This idea stinks worse than a dead mule's anus.

Sounds like rumors to me.

I believe the Resident Evil Mercenaries game was like that.  Never played that one myself but I've heard plenty of complaints about something to do with the saving system in that game.

And yeah I think this is a rumor too, though Microsoft isn't always well-known for doing things based on what consumers want or like so if it really did come to pass I wouldn't be particularly surprised either.  Though I have no idea how they'd actually set up such a thing.

I also think it's just a rumor, cause they said the same thing about the PS3, and that didn't come to pass either. Although I see the reason why these rumors would spread. The video game industry has been trying to get gamers to buy a new game over a used game for years. Bioware was on the right track, but then they made the "exclusive" DLC for Dragon Age available to everyone. If this decision were to be made by Microsoft, it would only be there to appease third-party developers, not gamers. But then again, if nobody buys the Xbox 720 because of this decision, what third-party developer would really care about a system that won't sell their product. There's a lot of speculation to be had here.
