Hello. I been on the TSL Scene for some years an I got to say the game is very impressive. I love King's Quest. I've played through Episodes 1-4 already an this morning I am playing them all through again to keep in touch with the spirit of King's Quest. This is such a relaxing game.

My questions are this: When will Episode 5 Come out? Why are you using a new engine to create Episode 5? Will you include all previous chapters within episode 5 as with previous releases? (One full download) Is it something to do with OpenGL because I noticed I had to reinstall my older drivers to fix the graphical glitch I had when I decided to play chapter 2.

I have a N560GTX an it required me to go to the NVIDIA site to get the OpenGL drivers for this game. Something I didn't have on the CD-ROM provided with my graphics card.

I hope Episode 5 is good. I hope Hassan is okay? :( I like Hassan he make's me smile when he talk's to graham. I'm going to admit this game make's me laugh an cry at the same time. Everything is all tied together just right. Makes me smile :).

I loved the Graham an Hassan Show its very interesting an funny. My favorite villians in the King's Quest would have to be Mordack an Abdul Alhazred. Mordack is just so evil. lol.

Who has a favorite villian here? Let me know :)

Thanks Phoenix Online. You make me a very very happy fan. :)

Shalkar!

I don't know if I should place this here. Very interesting. I am playing Episode two. Reading the letters from Manannan an Hagitha, an Hagitha know's about Gwydion (Prince Alexander) escaped Manannan years ago an turning him into a cat. So my question is how did Hagitha survive the tower fall? This is a most interesting game. Thanks again phenoix.

Hello Shalkar!

Episode 5 is in a new engine for many reasons. A huge one is that the Torque engine is no longer actively supported; as it was, our programmers essentially hacked the engine from being intended for FPS purposes to working for a third-person adventure game for us. We were already looking to use a new engine as we moved into commercial productions, and Unity has been MUCH better for us. It's simpler and easier to use, and we've been creating our own tools for it to make it even easier. Our programmers could give more technical details on this, but overall, Unity will make the game much easier to assemble and get working than Torque.

As for when, that is still TBD--and as past history here has shown, we're unlikely to announce a release date until we know it's certain and until a short time before the date itself. It won't be anytime soon, however, I can say that much. We do have people working on TSL right now, but there's a lot to be done, and many of us are focused on Cognition at the moment.

Episode 5 WILL happen, though, fear not on that point. :)

As for Hassan, well, the latest Hassan & Graham show had something about his fate--it should be up on YouTube soon for those who weren't able to make it to the livestream!

Thanks for dropping on the forums and glad to hear you're enjoying the game!

Oh, and PS: I'm going to move this to the TSL sub-forum. And my favorite villain, hmm...probably Mannanan, he was just so evil!

Oh alright. I understand. Thanks for the reply on this. Now I feel sad over Hassan. :(. I guess that's what happens in life as well I suppose. Yes about the Villian Part Mannannan is very evil LOL. He might be more evil than Mordack because he doesn't care about no one. Mordack on the other hand was a little understanding toward Alexander. I think what inspires me about Mordack is his name. Just hearing his name sends chills up my spine. LOL!

Are there going to be any old villians back for a 2nd round in the final episode? I hope episode 5 is the most interesting episode. You know the icing of the cake LOL!   !!!

Graham makes a good Father as a good King as well. He speaks very intelligently to Edgar an Edgar looks toward Graham like a father figure. Very impressive :D

The Four Winds team has something in the works about Hassan... you'll see what he's been up to here in a day or so.  :suffer:

A minor point, but could you remove the "Coming soon" from the downloads page of Episode V if it's not coming soon?
Grateful about a free game currently in development & offering support to the dev team in hopes the final episode will be released. Will keep waiting for updates.

Counterpoint: If we were to remove 'coming soon', some fans might think work has halted completely. Which is not the case. We don't know when it'll be done but it is coming. Therefore it lets the public know that the game is in production and is coming. "Coming Later" doesn't have the same ring, does it  ;)

Well when you consider the first episodes took close to a decade to start being released, Episode 5 is definitely coming "soon" in comparison.

Alright. I have read your replies an I want to know why it is taking so long for Episode 5. I understand this is going to be the most awesome chapter. I am currently playing through Chapter 3. an yes Mannanan is very very evil. LOL. A few puzzles in this chapter were time consuming an very hard. Like the Chess/Shell passing puzzle. (Monkey in the Middle) an the Druid/SIGNS puzzle. :(. It was hard. Took me like over an hour to solve. I think I prefer Episode 4 over 3.

(Update 2:38pm) I just *about* finished chapter 3. I got alexander's hair an princess rosella's voice after I gave the candle wax mold to the metal worker. As soon as I recieve the silver moon, the scroll guides me to the castle to see Casima an Saladan. As soon as graham walks away the game freezes.  >:( I tried changing the graphic settings to low an nothing works? Any answers? Thanks. BTW: Is there a patch that'll let me continue from the previous chapter instead of going to the main menu to select the next chapter?

Are you redoing the whole TSL Episodes 1-5 in the new engine to remove the bugs so everything will be perfection? That's probabley another reason why Chapter 5 is taking some time. LOL!

Now I wonder will Mordack come back in Episode 5 :) LOL! An what's up with Hassan? Let me know.  :suffer:

wilco64256

We're building Episode 5 by itself completely from scratch in a new engine - the first four episoodes were all made in parallel in Torque, which made it easier to release them relatively close together.  This one is taking much longer becuase of it being baked from scratch by volunteers.  Rest assured it is being worked on as quickly as is reasonably possible and it's coming together quite nicely.

Will the graphics look any different, I wonder?

I don't suppose "Stay Tooned" would be more appropriate would it?

I'm really not trying to alienate newbies (or anyone for that matter). XD

The reason people say "stay tuned" is because they mean "stay tuned in to this frequency" i.e. the radio because you actually had to tune it yourself with the dial. Then Warner Bros came along and said "stay tooned" because it was a play on the word "car*toon*". :P

I thought that was the reference that they were going for though. :P

...though admittedly I felt it was a bit of a stretch ... something about how the characters in the game are like cartoon characters? ???

Care, do you mean to say "as melodramatic and one-dimensional as a cartoon character"? Now you're just being mean. :P

People should know the difference, realise the only thing they can learn from WB comes from Histeria and enjoy a very basic etymology lesson. :P

Windows 8 will support the Unity game engine:

http://www.neowin.net/news/windows-8-and-windows-phone-8-to-use-the-unity-3-graphics-engine

Good news for Episode 5 and future Windows 8 users then, or is it unrelated?  :)
Any benefits using 8 instead of 7 in regard to Episode 5?
Anyway I think I'll upgrade to 8 as soon as possible.

wilco64256

Keep in mind though that just because Unity will "support" Windows 8, doesn't automatically mean any game made in Unity will run on the new OS. There may be additional work required on the backend to get a game to run under Windows 8, so it remains to be seen what (if anything) will be necessary to get that to work.

I have two questions. But first i want to say, that i really really love TSL.
The first part of the quote sounds much like TSL isn´t important anymore. Why? Why don´t just finish one game and then start the next?

My second question ist: Why isn´t the Hassan & Graham Show on youtube yet? there ist only the 9 months old show and a trailer for the latest episode, but not the latest episode itself.

I´m starting to feel dissappionted. I know that theres a lot of work, but  this

really sounds like po studios have enough of TSL. And that would be a pretty sad thing.

GrahamRocks!

Speaking of  the H&G show, there one small thing that's been bugging since the second show.

In the first show, Graham talks about the email from Gabriel Knight whivh mentions that he'd like to help out against Shadrack. This means most likely that it takes place during/after episodes 3 and 4, when Graham and Shadrack meet. But, in the second show, it's mentioned that Rosella is getting ready for her wedding and is really excited about it, meaning it either takes place before episode 1, OR it takes place after episode 5 which is forehadowing that the wedding will be part of the ending to 5.
