Quote from: Storm on May 29, 2004, 07:13:45 PMAllow me to paraphrase a well-known proverb:

"The more I know men, the more I like my PC" ::)

I knew my massive collection of e-mail jokes would come in handy one day. ;)

QuoteFIVE REASONS WHY COMPUTERS MUST BE MALE

5. They're heavily dependent on external tools and equipment.
4. They periodically cut you off right when you think you've established a network connection.
3. They'll usually do what you ask them to do, but they won't do more than they have to and they won't think of it on their own.
2. They're typically obsolete within five years and need to be traded in for a new model. Some users, however, feel they've already invested so much in the damn machine that they're compelled to remain with an under powered system.
1. They get hot when you turn them on, and that's the only time you have their attention.

QuoteFIVE REASONS WHY COMPUTERS MUST BE FEMALE

5. No one but their creator understands their internal logic.
4. Even your smallest mistakes are immediately committed to memory for future reference.
3. The native language used to communicate with other computers is incomprehensible to everyone else.
2. The message "Bad Command or Filename," is about as informative as "If you don't know why I'm mad at you, then I'm certainly not going to tell you."
1. As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourself spending half your paycheck on accessories for it.

Well, the forum itself only remembers people for 15 minutes (in the Who's Online thing).  The kq9.org site is the one that goes into specific user visitor stats.  8)

I can't understand why anyone would like computers while there are so many unknown beautifull ppl on this world ; )

Allow me to paraphrase a well-known proverb:

I couldnt agree more with that <3

I am afraid your new picture reminds me of the teacher in the beginning of Willy Beamish.  This was an old game that was released by Sierra.  I really enjoyed it.

I will try to limit my controversial topics but I think it would be cool if they had a special place for controversial topics and you Say and or Neil would establish guidelines.  For example, I think there should be no shouting or degrading others for their opinions.  I really would like to know what others think about certain controversial topics.

I like Say's avatar... it reminds me of Daria/Kennedy. ;)

As for controversial topics... mmm. Religion and politics are invariably nasty topics... every involved religious or political discussion I've been in tended to end in one of three ways:

1. Everyone agreed, so it was friendly but not much of a debate.
2. It devolved into an ugly mud-slinging match.
3. Everyone agreed to disagree because the discussion was showing signs of slipping into an ugly mud-slinging match.

Now, if there's any non-religious or non-political "deep" discussion topics (not necessarily controversial)... I have to admit, it's been a while since I got to have a philosophical discussion on a forum... I'm getting out of practice. ;)

ok the point why I dont obviously allow is is how can I ever control what anyone may think? I just cant, things will come and go and one written and post I cant edit a personal comment, and I wont be editing 9485435 posts I believe offensive, but I can control what goes on here, and I dont want anyone to get offended or harmed by any comments, there are no guidelines for this, Im deeply sorry, havent you hear that same in real life? that you shouldn't discuss politics or religion or such with friends? there is always like Jeysie said, either you agree to avoid conflict, either it becomes troublesome, so it is a big NO, as long as I breath as a director of this department it shall not be this around here, I have enough things to attend as it goes as to spoil you even more (again) with this things, I was quite unpleasant with the previous topics expressed about politics and religion already, so I wont let it happen ever again, I hope this is quite clear and understood by now. Sorry, it's just not happening.

about my avatar, thats a selfportrait done by me.

Why are you so curious, Dew? If it's because you're doing a school research project or something like that, I suppose you could try asking people privately one-on-one if they wanted to help.

If I were to want to do that, I'd first have to remove the (persistant) cookie on my pc, so it doesn't automatically logs me in, like it always does. You see, I don't logon or logout to forums. I'm big supporter of persistent cookies, as long as they have to do with forums. Others I just deny and only allow if they're absolutely needed.

Aye, but those don't include forum user names.

Quote from: dew7 on May 30, 2004, 09:50:08 AMI really would like to know what others think about certain controversial topics.
There's always the possibility of someone creating a thread on a forum (not hosted by KQ9.org) dedicated to political and religious discussions and posting a link to that on these boards. I've been in some seriously heated discussions in the past on such a forum (at least half a year ago now), but I've always respected other people's opinions, even though I may seriously disagree with them.

Jeysie

If CC suggested using another forum, I think it's pretty obvious he did it so KQ9 wouldn't be involved, I don't think there's a need to get upset.

And this isn't *just* a personal Dew thing... if someone else ever brought up these sorts of things, we'd have to go through it all over again. If we just e-mailed Dew, what if someone else brought up the same ideas down the road? Better to answer it here, once, for the record. :-\

Say is so right!! i mean it is obvious that if such discussions aren't allowed it isn't allowed either to post links to them.

If you Email each other that's fine, but no posting about it... anymore!!

thnx  ;-D

Edit: i forgot to say, ...this is the last post about this topic, if not...

Ah yes, it'd seem we'll need to wait for dew to provide us with some new information about himself we can discuss afterwards. 8)

I agree fully with Jeysie.  Jeysie has a very clear head on her shoulders.  She understands computers.  She is patient with people.  She understands the importance of women's rights but does not like when militant feminists try to degrade men.  I am referring to the incident that happened at child care when I tapped a nine year old girl on the shoulder twice and the next thing I knew was that I was forced out of a job.  Jeysie wrote a very knowledgable response to the whole feminist situation in another thread which I found to be brilliant when I read it.  I am unsure what to think about Say because she has not provided me with enough details of what she thinks for me to make a valid opinion.  I am tempted to start a Jeysie thread.  :>

I like cookies and I do not know enough about Say to form an opinion
Dew is an individual who likes to remain anonymous.  Computers have always been interesting to me.  I originally started with an IBM PCjr and started out with BASIC programming on this machine.  My Dad fostered in me a great love of computers and technology.  I have since taken classes in JAVA, QBASIC, Web Development, etc.  I am currently studying MS-DOS and how it is used in Microsoft's Windows 98SE.  Next, I plan to study the Windows registry for information in how I can customize it to make my computer even more unique.  I currently am in the process of upgrading my PC to have a dual-boot system with 98SE and XP Professional.

EDITED-> you do it again and consider the whole post deleted, if you have anything to say about this matter feel free to PM, dont do it here.
