Characters always appearing on top layer

I've been playing the kickstarter backers version of the game this morning, and having a great time. I've noticed, however, that the animated characters always appear to be placed on the top graphical layer of the scene, even in some cases where I expect the intention would be for them to be placed in the background behind some other objects in the foreground. I've attached images of two examples of this behavior to the post, and wondered if there might be any recommendations for fixing this.

I'm running the game under the highest graphics setting at 1680 x 1050 on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit with an AMD Radeon HD 6800 series graphics card (and DirectX 11).

To be clear though - it's very rare this has been an issue, and it really hasn't been taking away from the game. Just thought you'd want any such issues reported!

Try visiting the AMD site and updating your video card drivers, see if that helps.

Hah!
Fixed as easily as that. Something I should've tried before I posted, really.

Thanks very much!

Yay, I'm glad to hear that's working properly now. We use kind of a fancy shader to make that work, so if anybody else has this issue it's most likely going to be the exact same solution.

Whoops, it appears I spoke too soon. The problem had gone away in that one instance, but strangely came back a bit later. Also, there was another case when an object in scene that should have been hidden from view was appearing directly on the top surface! I'll not go into too much detail on that point for spoilers' sake, but it appears to be the same underlying issue.

I've found a decent enough workaround for my purposes, however. The issue appears to only crop up once the graphics quality settings are set to "Good", "Beautiful" or "Fantastic". Running under the "Simple" setting, with 8X anti-aliasing in-game seems to make the problem go away, and the quality still look fine.

I'm happy with my solution, but just so you know, you may still be hearing from other people on this one...

Ah ok yeah one of the testers had to play on similar settings for the same reason. Not entirely sure why, but that does work.

Just a quick note, I also had this issue from time to time with an ATI card. I found that restarting with a different graphics mode (there didn't seem to be a noticeable difference among them) helped.

But more importantly, if the game started with characters on the top layer, it went away after loading two or three screens. So it wasn't a persistent issue - maybe just something associated with loading the engine initially.

I also have this issue. I've just started episode 1 and Erica has walked over the fountain and the buried item was showing (though not selectable) without my having dug it up yet. Oh, and despite John being on the other side of the mausoleum he's in plain sight.

I'm running an AMD HD 5870 with the 13.1 drivers (latest) on Windows 8 Pro 64-bit

It may help to change the program's compatibility settings to run as if under Windows 7, we haven't really tested it fully under Windows 8 to determine what issues can arise over there.

I have the same issue but for me I found the problem only arises when AA is enabled, when setting AA to 0 the issue resolves itself.

I'm running AMD 7970 on CCC 13.6 beta.

Be nice if i could play with AA to get rid of the dam jaggies!  Any more thoughts on this?

Thanks
