Wishes for future episodes

Hey there,

first of all thank you for the great first episode of this game! After getting around a nasty bug in the beginning of the game (http://postudios.com/blog/forum/index.php?topic=12528#msg348183) I played through the episode almost completely in one continuous session. And I must say that I really enjoyed the ride. :)

While playing the episode a couple of small improvements came to my mind that could improve future episodes:

Must-have features: ;)
1) Please add a "map" icon to the icon bar (near the computer/telephone/hints). This would help going directly to other destinations without walking through unnecessary rooms on the way to the map.
2) It would be great to be able to skip all dialog lines and cutscenes. Especially for the bug mentioned in the beginning of this post this would have helped a lot. I also experienced another crash (don't remember exactly where or when it was) and had no recent savegame. I would have appreciated a real skip feature in this situation.

Nice-to-have features:
3) If there are no more interactions with an object possible (already looked at the object and tried to interact with it) you could remove the hotspot for it. This would help to get a feeling about remaining interactions left for solving the game.

Chrismas/New year wishes: ;D
4) Voice-over for the german translation. The text translation is actually very good (played it completely in german language) but having a full voice-over would be awesome. Do you plan to add something like this in the future if the game gets more popular? This would help a lot for selling it in Germany/Austria/Switzerland.

Small bugs that I encountered (maybe you could fix them for the Steam release):
5) When walking around the FBI office in the birds eye view there is someone sitting on the desk in front of Sullivan. In the closeup view this person is gone. Cutting back to birds eye he is there again.
6) Sometimes Sully tends to inspect the bed instead of the niche under the table in the Longmore apartment. The hotspot position in this case is still the correct one.

This is it at the moment. Thanks again for providing this great first episode! I'm really looking forward to the end of January.

Best,
Eric

Hi, Lost Viking, welcome to the forums  ;D

Thank you for your awesome suggestions.

Yeah, the Cognition still has some bugs here and there, hopefully the developers can iron them out in episode 2 :)

KatieHal

Hi and welcome LostViking! Glad you enjoyed the game and that you got through that bug :)

Some of those features I know aren't going to be added in this game, but it's good to hear these ideas for future games at least. I know that in most if not all cases in Ep 2 we remove interactions that are no longer valid, though!

As for German voiceovers, that is entirely budget-dependent and we've got no plans for it at this time, unfortunately. But, I'm glad to hear the translations have been good!

Thanks again for the feedback!

I'm very disappointed that there is no german translation in episode 2 anymore.  :(
The quality of the translation was one of the reasons I bought the seasons pass in the first place.

Are there any plans to add a german translation later?

Sad regards,
Eric

Hi Eric,

Unfortunately we weren't able to include the German subtitles in Episode 2, but we are hoping to add them back in as a patch for all Episodes after we're done releasing the game.

What a pity. :(

Canceled my vote for Cognition on Steam Greenlight. Providing a german demo and episode 1 and not telling the customers that this was a one time feature for the first episode is not honest. Not even a word in the release announcement, in the description or in your first answer in this thread.

Eric

I sent you a PM, but for others coming through here:

We do very much want to get the German translation back into the game. Getting onto Steam actually would be a huge help in that regard, since being on Steam is so key to the success of indie games like ours. It would enable us to be certain of adding features like translations in.

The reason this wasn't mentioned earlier was because we had planned to continue the translations at the time, and it was only recently due to some production delays that we became unable to provide that in this Episode.

Oh come on..you germans/italians/French people, just learn English... You know how often in my life a game I really wanted to play was delayed endlessly because for the euro zone they had to put in German/Italian/French translations.. and not forgetting that I am paying for those translations as well while not using them.

Now you got a game which is not directly translated in your native language and now your pissed of at it?
German television has to stop dubbing all there TV shows because you all get lazy learning other languages.

BTW I am dutch.. I speak english/French/german it is not that hard. just try... the combination on dutch TV with subtitles with the Original sound helped me a lot.

Wow this is a broad-minded and liberal attitude. Thanks for your humble words Darkpulse!

I have to admit there are a few years of frustration speaking to have to import the NTSC version of games because the PAL version had to be translated in a lot of other languages and took much longer to get in the stores.

I just think that patching other languages then english in the game at a later date is an excellent way of keeping the speed of releases up and getting the funds flowing for the translation cost. You pulling your vote from steam will not help getting those funds sooner.

Actually I did't pull my vote because of the missing language feature in this release, I did it because of the lack of open communication to the (german) customers as I wrote earlier. I only canceled the vote after I got the vague message from Katie that there they are "hoping to add them back (...) after they're done releasing the game". On the other hand the Greenlight page still promotes German as an in game language.

I totally understand the release stress and timing situation and wouldn't mind to wait some weeks for a german patch after an episode's release. But having to wait some months (are the other episodes scheduled yet?) until the final release is not a good perspective for me.

As I wrote Katie in my answer to her PM, I'd be more than happy to re-add my Greenlight vote for this otherwise great game after they release the following episode 3 with German subtitles again. Or after they release a translation patch for either of the two episodes whatever happens first.

So please calm down, the success of this game will not depend on my one vote on Greenlight!  ;)

Best,
Eric
