How demanding is the game for your computers?

I'm asking because currently I only have a laptop. I'm thinking of getting a standard computer and keeping the laptop just for library work, travels etc., anyway I don't have it at the moment. Laptops tend to overheat. Do you have such problems I have already learnt that I have to play "The Silver Lining" in short sessions - no longer than about 20 minutes - otherwise the computer will overheat and shut itself down.
I've already had this problem with some games - mostly Amiga games with a modified WinUAE emulator that turns them into exe files (some Polish guys made such a project and it's really extremely convenient - much easier than setting up Winfellow or another Amiga emulator. However, they work on games one by one - I'm waiting for a "King's Quest" "exec" because KQ4 has slightly better graphics than the DOS version), but also even a few browser puzzle games. However, "The Silver Lining" seems the most technically demanding game of all I have. I don't want to bring the detail level down too much or it will look bad. However, I've turned off voice (even though just by bringing the dialog volume down to "0", I haven't noticed any other way) because out of some reason I just don't like speech in games, I guess I simply prefer reading so much. (I listen to music, but not to the radio, I watch films, but don't watch TV, and I only about politics in written media, so I may be quite strongly text-oriented.)

It really depends on how new the computer is. I think these days, if you get a new computer in the $800 range that's more than sufficient for playing games like TSL, though >$1k range is a must for more demanding games that have come out in the past year.

You might also want to look into replacing the fans in your laptop if the main problem is overheating. It's not likely to improve performance but perhaps a fan went bad?

It'd also be a good idea just to make sure the fan and vent are both clean and well ventilated. Keeping the laptop on a flat hard surface while using it, or on a cooling stand (I use one of these for my laptop) will also help.

Definitely. I use a can of air (found in most computer stores) on my own PC now and then to get all the dust out.
