So now that the Wii-U is out, the PS4 was announced to be released this year and the Xbox 3 will no doubt be launched back-to-back with Sony's console, what are your impressions of the next generation of consoles?

Personally, I gotta be honest, though I don't mind the Wii-u going for an affordable low tech specifications, I'm really not a fan of tablets or motion sensing, as for the PS4, though the specs are impressive and Killzone 4 looks great, I was never a fan of Killzone.

But I can't deny that graphically it looks awesome:

Personally, In my opinion hardware capabilities in terms of gaming can't go much higher without becoming real. And, at that point, what happens to real life???? Although ps4 graphics are great, they are not drastically better than ps3. ps3 is just fine. The only difference I saw was bigger environments, probably due to the 8 gb of ram. Same thing with assasins creed 3. The graphics were great, but it was more the environment size that was impressive.  I think the idea of creating huge open worlds is awesome and opens up lots of possibilities. But, graphically, was it THAT much better than ps3? I don't think so. When you look at the specs, it is a higher-end mid range gaming PC.  When It comes out months from now, it might just be mid range. Still good, don't get me wrong. But the fastest PC GPUs and CPUs would waste a ps4 in all respects. It is a question of price as well. I think that games are so great technologically already that the focus needs to come back to story, which I believe it will. A plus is that with the xbox 720 and ps4 both using x86 computer style architecture (and all AMD) that pc ports won't be as crappy.

Also, check out the occular rift!!! This is the future. A REAL VR head set.

I really hope we get more open games, though I really liked this current generation, I felt too many games were a bit too linear for my taste.

As for the PS3 specs, I'd still call it a high range PC as not a lot of people have 8GB of RAM (I myself have 4GB DDR3), but I can definitely see it become mid range by this time next year.

Also, yeah the Rift sounds pretty awesome, it reminds me of the mid 90's and all the Virtual Reality hype xD

Is it too late to get one? I think the kickstarter is over.  Are you developing anything with it? Keep us posted, it looked really cool in demos.

And also, as far as memory goes, 8 gb only cost me 50 bucks, and I got an amd fx 6100 (virtual 6 core) for 100 bucks.  The only thing I'm waiting on now is a good GPU.  But even at 100 bucks, my cpu is rated 15% faster than the 8-core on the ps4. (my cores are 2x as fast).  I have heard the GPU on ps4 is an amd between the 7850 and 7870, which cost wise would make sense. AMD fastest card is at least 400 alone, so definetely not that. So yea, by next year it will be mid range, but not overly impressive. But games with good stories are better than all the graphics maxed. There is only so much you can do.

I'm sure they'll be selling more kits once they launch. I'll let you know if I make anything cool. ;) I might just tinker and make something really simple like a Tetris clone at first.

Yeah, I'm old school.  I like my video games to look like video games.... not real life.  I'm looking to play a game, not a simulation.
