If this list is correct, then IGN is without a doubt the most powerful and influential media outlet out there right now... have I mentioned I'm not a fan of IGN by the way?

Numbers

As a wise man once said, "You can't spell ignorance without ign."

There's like two reviewers on there that I like, both of which are on IGN TV. Most of em are punks, though.
I have no mouth, and I must scream.

It also show just how few reviews they really do pull in.

And didn't 1Up shut down? Although now that I look at their site, there are both recent reviews and the note from a month saying they shut down.

Ooooh Metacritic fired back! Claiming this information is completely wrong.

How will this is end? Will metacritic finally reveal their system? Stay tuned!

Better/less fun solution: Stop looking at metacritic. :P

The comments are interesting, but most are incredibly stupid. Lots of people saying that their response doesn't prove anything unless they provide actual evidence.

Metacritic has every right to keep their weightings and their formulae to themselves. It's their intellectual property, and if they just give it away, they reduce their income significantly.

Honestly, does no one understand capitalism anymore?

I did find this comment amusing, though:

"So you're saying these arbitrarily selected numbers don't accurately reflect the value of your product? Got it."
In theory, there's no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

I just have to wonder, who the f*** cares?  I don't even understand why this should be at all important to anyone.  Can someone seriously explain this to me?

whether you like Metacritic or not, it is pretty important these days

"It turns out that the Metacritic score is a great indicator of financial success. Sales rise sharply for games listed as 83 or higher on Metacritic. Greenwood-Ericksen determined there was a .72 correlation between the Metacritic score and sales, which is considered extraordinarily high — though he emphasized that this means the two are closely related, not that one directly causes the other."

I'm not saying I like Metacritic mind you, but it is something we need to keep an eye on
