iPad version, cannot combine tape with tape recorder

I have the iPad version of the game, and obtained both the tape and tape recorder.  However, every time that I try to use the tape recorder with the tape to play it, Erica says "that is not going to work with this".  Because of this bug, I cannot proceed further with the game.

What happens if you just tap the hand icon and then the tape recorder?

Sorry, that doesn't work either.

Also, I should point out that my iPad is third generation, 64 GB, with over 20 GB free memory.  I have also exited the game, "re-booted" the iPad, and then re-started the game and loaded my save file again, and the problem happens every single time.  Only the wording of Erica's "refusal" changes from time to time.

I also went back to an earlier save before getting the tape recorder (I already had the tape in that save), and obtained the recorder again.  Once again, Erica refuses to acknowledge that these two items work together.

I went back to an even earlier point in this game, before obtaining the tape, and re-played until I obtained both the tape and tape recorder.

The problem persists, I have given up on this game, and I deleted it from my device.

I tried this several times today on a few different iPads without any issues at all. You are tapping the + icon and then the tape recorder and then the tape (or the tape first and then the recorder) right? And this has to all be done in the regular inventory area and not on the "active" item icon that sticks out of the top left?

I'm honestly baffled by this one, nobody has ever reported having this issue before in testing or on any platform that the game's been released on.

I am quite sure that is what I did.  Sadly, the game is uninstalled now, and to get to that point, I will have to re-install, and play through the whole thing again.  By the way, I have successfully "combined" other items, including the first few parts of Le Pendu.

Perhaps I will try again, and since I already know the solutions to the earlier puzzles, I hope it won't take me too long to make up the lost progress.

I re-installed, and played to where I got the tape and recorder, and everything worked perfectly this time around.  Now, I should be able to complete the game.

Thank you everyone, and yes, I am thoroughly enjoying the game, and look forward to part 2 being released for the iPad, hopefully in the not too distant future.

Who knows, perhaps I had a bad download the first time I installed the game, since I did experience a couple of other issues with the earlier install, including a disappearing inventory at one point.
