I am very sorry to inform you that Karen S, has passed away recently.

I know that Karen was a member of the TSL team for some time and helped with the graphics of the game thus I opened this thread here.

Karen was a very dear friend to me and her loss hurts me a lot.

We shared a dream and for over a year have built together the KQ4 remake, almost all of the graphics of KQ4 remake are hers.

May her soul rest in peace.
Avi.

Oh my god--I am so sorry and stunned to hear this. Thank you for letting us know, even if the news is bad. Karen was indeed very passionate about King's Quest and many other things, I remember that well from her time with us, and yes, very talented. This is so sad to hear.

My condolences to your team and her loved ones as well. She'll be in my prayers, as will they.

I'm so deeply sorry to hear this. Karen was very kind and always a hard worker. I remember a couple of her messages really well that really lit up my day. I could always send her an endless list of work and know that she would be done with it in not time. Our closest time was when we were working in the village of Astratos together, and she came up with design after design of great things.

She definitely left a stamp on The Silver Lining and she will always be remembered. May she rest in peace.

I still can't believe it myself.  In fact, when I first found out the news, I was really hoping it was all a joke.  I don't even mind telling you, that- even though I have to go to work early in the morning- I still have trouble falling asleep at night; thinking about the bond that we developed through our conversations, the fantastic work she did, and how much I miss her.

Wow. That's terrible! :'( I never worked closely with Karen, but her passion was clearly evident in her communications with the team.

Well, hopefully she has made it safely to the Isle of the Dead, and Lord Samhain has had mercy on her.

A few things I need to know:

1. How will this affect the KQ4 remake?

2. How will this effect episode 5 of TSL?

3. Will there be any mention of Karen's passing in Ep. 5, or at least an obituary in Four Winds (which has NOT seen an update since AUGUST)?
I don't narrate for stinky kings!

I can't answer questions 2 or 3, but as for question 1:  We at Unicorn Tales are still working on the KQIV remake and intend to finish it, as it's the least we could do to honor her.  However, we'll probably have to make some sacrifices.  In fact, we're looking at the possibility of having to make it a 1:1 type remake.  We don't know that for sure, but it's looking that way at this point.

A 1:1 remake is probably for the best, anyway. KQ4 has some pretty stupid puzzles (the whale tongue, followed up by shipwreck island), and some inexcusably deadly enemies (the shark and the cave troll), but it doesn't need any extra subplots. Maybe just a few neat touches here and there. Fix up some of the more counter-intuitive puzzles...make it so that it's possible to kill off the cave troll, maybe...in the end, I'm sure that whatever you come up with, Karen would have approved.
I have no mouth, and I must scream.

It won't affect TSL Ep 5--Karen left the TSL team before Episode 1 was released. And yes, we'll certainly have some mention of her, exactly what is still being determined.

Four Winds has been on hold largely because the people involved are busy with other tasks involved in Episode 5, and Kristen (writerlove) recently had to leave the team as she got a new fulltime job (and yay for her, she was looking for quite a long time!).

Best of luck with the KQ4 remake, Jack & everyone else at Unicorn Tales! I look forward to it, 1:1 or otherwise. :)

1st like to give my condolences. 2nd thing i know magic mirror stopped working there version but is  Nightfable and Westend studios still working on there remake ?

Maybe as a suggestion all 3 groups Magic mirrors, nightfable and westend studios, and Unicorn tales could work together to help finish the project that Karen started.

I am very sorry to hear this. Karen contacted me to see if I was interested in  doing music for their game but it looked like finances was going to be an issue but that may have changed as it wasn't finalized. She was incredibly sweet and made sure to say how much she appreciated the music I did in The Silver Lining.

It is shocking to know someone was here and the next they are gone. I pray those that were close with her are comforted in this time. God be with her. Rest in peace. Goodbye Karen.

Thank you all.

Actually, having the three kq4 remakers join forces sounds right, we will definitely look into it.

aHaynes or anyone else, any help would be appreciated, but you are right there are no funds, and probably there would never be, it is a game of fans for fans, Karen  didn't want it to be commercial in any way.

So all of the progress is done voluntarily, people volunteer their time and talent (and some server space).
