Will Episode 5 come out this year?

Can anyone on the team say if they will at least rule out--or not rule out--EP 5 coming out sometime in 2014?

It would fit perfectly, since it would fall near KQs 30th anniversary. But patience is a virtue, my friend.

I have faith the TSL team will let us know information about the game, or the next release, as soon as they are able to! ;D I appreciate the effort and detail every day adds to the game!

As a side note, I asked Google about King's Quest 30th anniversary, and it looks like it was last year??

That's inaccurate. KQ1 came out officially in 1984.

Chronologically speaking, the first KQ game that came out wasn't a KQ game at all; it was The Wizard and the Princess, which came out in 1980, predating KQ1 by a good 4 years.

...and it looks older than KQ1, too. Look at those vomit-inducing graphics. Still, it's not a KQ game, it just takes place in the same universe, so yes, KQ's 30th anniversary is this year.

On a related note, the KQ fangames typically have pretty large time gaps in between each release in general. I remember back when Space Quest had IA's SQ2 remake, Vohaul Strikes Back, and Incinerations all released within just a couple months of each other. The likelihood of that is incredibly rare. The KQ fangames, on the other hand, are often released years apart, even with multiple games in the pipeline. Given that the KQ fangame days are almost over with TSL episode 5 on the horizon, it looks like we'll have nothing to look forward to except maybe Kingdom of Sorrow, which I'm still holding out hope for.

This would be why I never ask Google for medical advice. ;)

Both your comments help explain a lot! After I posted, I got to thinking why the King's Quest 15th Anniversary Collector's edition was in 1994, which is now obvious they were celebrating 15 years of the company. Thanks Numbers and GrahamRocks!

Looks like the original release of King's Quest was May 10, 1984. Does that sound about right? If I'm going to make a cake to celebrate this thing, I want to do it right!

W00t! May 10th is just 10 days before my birthday!

...Ugh. I literally can't believe I just said "w00t."

There is something perfect in knowing you are capable of saying "w00t", and the KQ 30th year anniversary date was the cause. ^.^

I was thinking more about your comment of remakes.. Do you think there is a chance Activision will do anything with King's Quest since they got the rights back from Telltale? Seems like a lot of work to go through those steps if you aren't going to make something from it...

Activision is probably testing the waters with the Gabriel Knight remake. After the fiasco with Leisure Suit Larry Reloaded, they're probably wary of doing anything with the IPs they currently hold.

Pretty much all of the Leisure Suit Larry stuff that's come out since Love for Sail has ranged from forgettable to downright awful. I wouldn't pay much attention to anything that comes out of that franchise at this point.

As for King's Quest, I'm guessing Activision will sit on the IP for years and not do anything with it, like the other companies before them. Adventure games are simply not popular these days, and even if they did make a new one, chances are everybody's going to complain about it not staying true to the spirit of King's Quest, regardless of the fact that KQ had no consistent "spirit" anyways. In fact, I'd say that the best thing to come from KQ currently is the AGDI games, which all looked good, felt fantastical, had great music, and just the right mixture of humor and ominousness (especially 2 and 3), something which most of the canon games lacked.

I sure hope Activision has success with the Gabriel Knight remake! Phoenix Online is doing the programming, Jane Jensen is designer and director, so fingers crossed! If Gabriel Knight does well, maybe Activision will see a future with Pheonix Online, and maybe some King's Quest related project could be looked at... Man, am I a dreamer, or what?  ::)

As a side note, I don't think we'll be seeing much more from Leisure Suit Larry anyway... I think Replay Games has the rights, and Al Lowe is retired once again.

I did not know about these! I must play them!! Thank you!

You are right about Al going back into retirement, but Replay does not own the rights to Larry (thank god). It's still under the Codemasters banner. Replay just leased the rights to do the remake. After all that's happened I doubt they'd let Paul anywhere near the franchise.

I was incorrectly thinking Paul Trowe bought the rights to Larry at some point through his Kickstarter campaign. I am so glad I was wrong!

As we've said, it's not on hold. It's being worked on by a separate team from those of us working on the commercial projects (though people on those teams are doing some TSL work as they're able to as well). There'll be a trailer when we know we're close to release.

completely understand that this is a side project which generates no revenue for those working on it, and that it is a fan based project.

However, I can't deny I am sad every few months I check on this project and it seems there is no progress or updates.  I grew up watching my brothers play all the King's Quest Games, until I could play them myself, and they are very sentimental to me. I truly hope this project will be finished, because it keeps it such good form with the storyline, and all of us fans wish the story would continue on forever.

If anything (and I know everyone has other jobs and other projects) some updates on the site about what is going on would keep people interested, because at this point - I'm about to stop looking at this site, because the first several games came out relatively quickly and this last feels like it never will.  So I might give up on it. Sad.  And I totally, TOTALLY would pay for it if that would speed things up.  I loved all the other episodes.  Would paying for it speed things up at all????

Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure that POS asking for donations for TSL would attract lawyers like moths to a flame.

I think money would only make more problems then the ones it could solve.
