I still think Jeysie needs a new System AND connection... lol

:suffer:

Jeysie

It's true, I do... but not because of this website, ya kook. ;)

Peace & Luv, Liz

Grundy

Yeah, true, but you'll definitely need one to play KQ9.

;B

Jeysie

Yeah, I know. I have a feeling it's going to end up with Harrison and I not even being able to play a game we did voices for. :P

See if you can get your hands on a copy of Tribes or Tribes2, and if you can run that, then you'll be able to play KQ9.

KQ9 will actually be a bit easier on the system, since you're only moving between still screens, not running around like maniacs.

You 'what?' Tribes?

Is that an ass crack?   ;P

Tribes 2 uses the same game engine, so that's why I recommend trying it. TO see if your system can handle it.

J-ROC may be expressing affection (hugs???) for Tribes but then again my searches of emoticon dictionaries didn't yield any answers... what's up J-ROC?  :)

It's the MSN emoticon for <3.

I just didn't capitalize the "L", so it looks like a very tiny bum.  I have a tiny bum.  So it kinda looks like mine, but less hairy.

So, it really should have looked like "I <3 Tribes".

Happy now, ladies? :)

Anyway, I can say for sure that KQ9 won't work on video cards with 4MB video memory or less (or any cards older than 1997).  I tried Torque Game Engine on this computer which is fine in every other aspect, but the frame rate was literally < 0.1 FPS. :S

The system requirements for Torque are a very good indication of the bare, bare minimum requirements for KQ9, though KQ9's will probably be slightly higher and more specific.

Yeah, my video card is 4MB. I'm not certain what Harrison has, but it's probably the same thing. (His computer's only slightly better than mine.) And the cards are built in, and you can't get into the BIOS, so, nuts.

Oh, well. I might have enough money at the end of the year to get a new computer (since I need one anyway), but that's only if Harrison and I don't move. :P

The computer I'm using is 4-5 years old, but there are several PCI slots.  Does yours have expansion slots?  If so, you could purchase a cheap video card these days that are 16MB-32MB and you should be fine.  But still, I suggest waiting until we officially determine the minimum requirements.  :)

Jeysie

I do have PCI slots free... the problem is how to disable the onboard video card, since there doesn't seem to be a way to access the BIOS with any of the usual methods. Harrison had a devil of a time getting his system to recognize his new sound card over the onboard sound card a while back, and I think it still acts a bit wonky in some situations. :P

Usually it's DEL, F1, F2, or even . (period).  I suggest trying all the F-Keys, but a more efficient way is to go to the BIOS manufacturer's website and look through the user manual.  ;D

Ah, but you see... the BIOS manufacturer for our computers is... dun, dun, DUN! ...Compaq! ;P

There are some models where you can access the BIOS (or at least part of the BIOS) with a floppy, but I haven't had any luck so far locating the ones for our models on the website.

(sheepish look)

I have a Presario 5155, and Harrison has a Presario 5220. (shrug)

Here's how to upgrade your video card, and here's how to access your BIOS.  ;D

Jeysie

Huh. The BIOS thing did work. Unfortunately there were no options for disabling onboard systems.

And I know for a fact that the video card is not separate as that video link implies, because I actually bought a new AGP video card a while back, and Harrison told me he couldn't install it because the existing AGP card is built in and there's no separate slot. And installing a PCI card might cause conflicts if I can't disable the onboard one. That link must be for newer Compaqs (it mentions Windows XP, after all).

Oh, well, at least that matter is firmly put to rest six feet under. :P
