Sadly, all the processors I've bought so far were Intel based. :-\

Oh why! WHY DID YOU DO THAT TO YOURSELF! ARGH!!!
:'(

dew7

I guess you are a huge AMD fan.

At the time, the overall cost was cheaper to take the Intel route than AMD. :P

Intel hasn't being affordable since the original P3... lol
How old's your computer?

I guess intel can be affordable if you don't buy the top-end cpu's?  ;P

Intel's paying AMD to make their CPUs(all of Intel's 64 CPUs, will be based on AMD's code). Another victory for AMD.  ;D

This conversation reminds me of a magazine cover I saw a few years ago.

"Intel Strikes Back"

BAHAHAHAHA!
Havn't seen something that hilarious in a long time!
XD

Louisiana Night

If I can manage to find an image of it, I'll post it. It has the Pentium3(I think) and Athlon CPUs flying thru space shooting each other with lasers.  XD

dew7

What are your main reasons that you like AMD better?
Carpe Diem  Trying to help all of us including myself understand the merry-go-round of life.

Grundy

1: The fact that an AMD cpu's can run upto 1Ghz slower than a P4, yet still out perform them! lol

2: The innovative and much more efficient CPU design. ( As you can see with the performance per Ghz compared to P4 )

3: They are MUCH cheaper!

4: The motherboards and RAM for AMD systems are also MUCH cheaper, because they are more common and proven technology.

5: AMD were the first to reach 1Ghz.

6: AMD were the first to make a mainstream 32/64bit CPU.

7: Seting up a dual or Quad AMD system is much more affordable than a dual or quad Xeon systam!

8: I have 3 high-end AMD systems.

9: I love AMD

10: You should too!

XD

Is that enough? Or do you want me to go through 10 of Intel's FAULTS? Just to make it more obvious which is better.   ;B

Don't AMDs heat up alot?

Grundy

As do Pentiums. ;)

Heat is a problem that wont go away, and has nothing to do with which brand you buy.
It is simply because that's what the technology does, and anyway, heat is taken care of with heat sinks and fans.

If a P4 had no heatsink/fan, it would fry, just like an AMD would.
Heat is not an issue if you have a HSF.  ;)

Grundy already told you most of the reasons I prefer AMD CPUs. I have a few more things I'd like to add.

Athlon FX CPUs are easier to overclock than any new Intel CPU.

AMD listens more closely to what it's customers want(compared to Intel).

AMD was the underdog. Where I'm from, that means you root(or however you spell it) for them. It may not be true anymore, but that gave me good enough reason to start buying AMD CPUs.

Another reason. UT2004 takes advantage of 64bit CPUs. Most games will soon take full advantage of them, and they're cheaper than the high-end Intel 32-bit CPUs.

dew7

Are they as compatible with older games as Intel machines are or does the brand of CPU make no difference?
Carpe Diem  Trying to help all of us including myself understand the merry-go-round of life.

Grundy

It's the OS that dictates compatibility.  ;)

The new 64bit CPUs from AMD, are backward-compatible with 32bit code. They're still faster than most Intel 32bit CPUs, and will be faster in the future(if you bought one now, in 2006 it would be faster than when you bought it). That doesn't happen often.

By that time they'll have some L3543589 Burst Cache on chips that makes them "outperform ordinary 64-bit cpu's"...  Trust me, in 2 years from now, the top of the line system today will be so obsolete it's not even funny.

I agree. They'll still be faster than when you bought them though. That's a fascinating concept to me.  :)

dew7

It is interesting how Intel has decided not to focus on the chip speed.  I wonder if this is in response to AMD having a faster chip speed.   ::)

By the way...

P4s run hotter than Athlons. They've made it so small, that too much electricity's getting loose. If they keep making them smaller, without finding some way of helping with the problem, they will become useless.

dew7

Maybe my next PC will be AMD.
