yeah but we needed to write code for an embedded system, so it had to be compact and that would mean either C or assembly (pref). it was just fun, moving registers and so  :D I also wrote code for a basic processor, yay!!, those good old days!!  :D ;)

Maybe you weren't using the same assembly as I did. My assembly classes usually went on something like this:

1. Lecturer gives a program to write as an assignment

2. 20 minutes later - lecturer writes the program on the board by himself because no one could figure out how to do it

3. Everyone copy the program to their computers and run it (takes about 30 minutes), still not understanding how the heck it works.

4. The bell rings (actually, we didn't have a bell in college... but you get my point).

:P

hahahaha, well it sounds a bit familiar. at least for lotsa ppl who just copied their code from other student and didn't have the slightest idea what the code was about!!

the teacher didn't gave any explanation, he just read the book out loud in class and was probably hoping that everyone would understand it!!  :D :o

....more then 40% didn't pass that class  :o ::) ...so yeah, it was kinda difficult, at least in the beginning, but that's just part of the fun. easy things are just boring  :sleepy: :sleepy: ...but lack of guidance is kinda hard  :-\

I used to write the secsayest Assembly code, then I'd get to the lab and nothing would work. ::)

Ususally it was because I'm more used to having plenty of variables and arrays to do whatever I wish with, but with Assembly it's like you have to remember where everything is stored, and your variables/registers are limited. :-\

That, and it takes like 20 lines of code to do something stupid like sum the number of elements in an array. :P

B'rrr

yeah but if you convert your JAVA code it would be more/larger then those 20 lines of assembly, so if you need to write something compact (low disk space) it's better to use assembly

I wouldn't use Java for something that simple though.  Probably C!  XD

I agree with what most people here have said about JAVA.

and that's the only programming language, that people try to get me to learn. :-\

B'rrr

yeah, it's all about JAVA JAVA JAVA here :-\

 :o

Is that as much as you sleep!?

P.S. I think JAVA's overated. Well that, and I don't like it. ;D

B'rrr

probably more, and yeah JAVA kinda stinks (really, just smell it  :D)

Nah, it's good. You shouldn't leave the bag opened though, it would loose the flavor ;)

*Thanks god for high-capacity disks* ::)

AND the fact that you have to do barbaric things like define your stack and variables size, and what two dozen of up to 3 letter codewords mean, AND the fact that I never could figure out when to use the variable and when to use it's address.
Add to that the fact we never used anything as advanced as an editor and a barely understandable lecturer, and you'll see why I'm not particularly fond of assembly :P

:o :o god has something to do with it??  ::)

ok, but you don't always have high capacity disks (ie embedded software like pacemakers and so)

I just don't get why people would need to code in assembly.  A compiler always turns "high-level" code into machine code, so why struggle with some primitive language?  There's a much higher chance of screwing up when you have to write lengthy code.

I just appreciate assembly as a real low-level programming language, but it's just too old and lame to do anything worthwhile, IMO.  This is also why I would never want to do embedded software for a living.  :P

B'rrr

you are right, if there isn't a capacity problem(ie. embedded software) there is no use for assembly, at least not really. ...still programming in it is more fun then in JAVA or so, probably cuz it's more difficult  :P :D

Nah, that's because you're insane :o

dew7. Oh, and in my two last years of high school, I think we already had AT's in computer class. :o  Word-processing was very easy, since I already knew everything about that from home, so I was always finished with my work long before everyone else. Word I also learned in my own. Excel I know most formulas, but no macro's or VBA. My knowledge of Access is very basic. But then again, I have absolutely no degree or certificate in ICT, I'm just a simple bookkeeper with a special assignment that involves SQL. 8)
