King's Quest 6 is possibly the most well-liked game of the KQ series thus far (just wait for KQ9 to come out... :sneaky:).  So, what didn't you like from the game?

I wasn't upset about not getting to explore Chessboard Land, but I didn't like not getting to explore Beast's castle.

I'm thinking, though, that the team might try remeading (sp?) that :P

Nothing! It was perfect! ;D
Though it would have been nice to be able to explore Chessland and the Beast's Castle.
(BTW Yonkey, you forgot the 'and' there... unless you meant that Beast's Castle is called Chessland)

Navigating and surviving the catacombs labyrinth - No problem.

The lack of hints to take the flint & steel into the labyrinth - Well, catacombs are bound to be dark, and that was enough of a hint for me... as for the hole-in-the-wall & brick, I might be persuaded.

Marrying Cassima. That Beauty girl was pretty cute, too! - eh, no. I thought she was quite plain... she even looked kinda old if you were playing with the hi-res portraits. Actually, this is one of the things that bothered me when I was playing the game.

Going back and forth to the Pawn Shop to switch items all the time - No problem there. Would have been nice if the shop owner had some new lines every time though.

Alexander's stunning lack of swordsman skills! - Hey, would you people give the guy a break?? he's a lover, not a fighter! and he did remarkably well, considering he could barely lift that sword.

Thanks, I forgot the 'and'. :P

I'd have to say Alex's swordsmanship.  After all the stuff Alex goes through in that game, the sword is too heavy for him. ::) That, and I was expecting a better fight. :P

I seriously think she looks like a cross between Sarah Jessica Parker and Barbra Streisand. So no...no beauty there!

Following in Storm's illustrious footsteps... ;)

Being unable to explore Chessland and the Beast's Castle:

That did rankle a little bit. I remember when I first was playing the game I asked a friend who had beaten the game before if you ever got to go into Chessboard Land, and he said no, and I sulked a bit. ;P Still, it wasn't relevant to the plot, and the methods of blocking the player from going further were believable, so I didn't fret much. I would look forward to the idea of getting to explore them in KQ9, however... ;)

Navigating and surviving the catacombs labyrinth:

Nah, that was easy. Surprisingly so, since I generally have a very poor sense of direction. KQ6 has the honor of being one of only three computer games I've taken the time and patience to map (and was quite easy to do so compared to the other two games).

The lack of hints to take the flint & steel into the labyrinth:

On an objective level that's poor puzzle cluing, and as such a bit disappointing. On a practical level it didn't trip me up, since I'm well-versed in not going to a major new place until I've gleaned all the info and items I can get from my current locations. ;P

Marrying Cassima. That Beauty girl was pretty cute, too:

I'm with the majority. Beauty did look pretty enough once she was "cleaned up", but she didn't quite capture the descriptions of being beautiful that she was given. Come to think of it, Lady Celeste was kind of homely-looking too.

Of course, Beauty *did* have a kind of sweet voice... when the lights are out that's all you need, right? ;)

That all said, I did have a problem with marrying Cassima, but for completely different reasons. As I quipped once on another board, "So let me get this straight... you have a main character who is handsome, well-mannered, intelligent, brave, and noble, and the whole point of the game is to *marry him off*? How cruel to a hot-blooded woman can you get?"

Going back and forth to the Pawn Shop to switch items all the time:

This was kind of annoying, but not a showstopper. Besides, the Pawn Shop owner was pretty cool. Although this aspect did suffer from a lack of clues as well (it was a bit of lucky guessing to know which item to take at which time).

Alexander's stunning lack of swordsman skills:

I'm with Storm on this one. Considering the sword was too heavy for proper wielding, and the fellow hadn't exactly had a great deal of time at Castle Daventry before his adventure to learn swordsmanship, I'd say he did pretty darn well. (Besides, the feminist side of me liked the idea of Cassima getting to assist in her rescue.)

There is a part of me that would have loved more dialogue play a la Princess Bride or Monkey Island (albeit not with such a humorous bent). There are a few WAVs in the resource.aud file that sound like they might have fit during the swordfight but weren't used for some reason.

I don't think the game was perfect, but it didn't suffer from any major issues, and few minor ones, IMHO.

Peace & Luv, Liz

So, I'm the only one who thinks Beauty's "before" was actually better than her "after"? ;)
You're right about Lady Celeste, but then she didn't have such a demending name to live up to... playing the game, I found myself pondering whether this was done intentionally, to keep Alex from straying :P

Lady Celeste did have a name to live up to 'Celeste' in Latin means sky. And you heard her, she wouldn't have been taken by a 'mere human', that was smaller than she.
