I just found out about you guys developing Kings Quest 9 today. The project looks awesome.

I thought I'd have a little fun with Fan Fiction..

This story is about what happened while Alexander was searching for the Green Isles at sea.

Since that part of history never seemed to be elaborated on, I thought you guys might enjoy this.

-----------=====-----------
The Untold Tales of
Alexander of Daventry

Lost at Sea

* Time Frame: July 1615 D.C. - October 1615 D.C.
-----------=====-----------

Introduction

Two weeks into the search, Alexander and his crew were no closer to finding the Green Isles then when they first started... as a matter of fact... they were lost.

Part 1

A slow passing breeze whistled through the cracks of Alexander’s cabin door... Waking slowly, he rubbed his eyes. The usual sound of the creaking wooden planks of the ship reminded him that he was still at sea and not at his luxurious home on Daventry... but if he found the Green Isles it would all be worth it.

The sound of loud feuding became louder as he walked out onto the deck... emanating from the conference room.

Wondering what the problem was, Alexander walked to and opened the conference room door to hear his first officer speak.

"You're wrong, old man. We've been going in the wrong direction this WHOLE time." Canderous spoke loudly.

"Too naive you are, to understand, young, impatient fool." The ships oldest and wisest counselor and advisor to Alexander, Fernan responded.

"We don't have TIME," slamming his hand on the table, Alexander interrupted, "for your pointless bickering... I trust Fernan's judgment and you would be wise to do so as well. We WILL continue this course, I WILL find the Green Isles and I WILL save Cassima... at any cost."

"I… I apologize, captain. My anger is driven by our endless search... I wasn't thinking clearly." Canderous responded hesitantly.

"Okay then..." Alexander's voice a bit shaky now, "Carry on, gentlemen..." he said as he exited the conference room.

Cracking the door back open, Alexander spoke once more, "We will... find the Green Isles, gentlemen... We will." Alexander’s last words faded as he walked out of the conference room, off the deck, and back to his quarters.

Part 2

Two more weeks passed by in a breeze… literally. But not just any breeze. Just his luck, Alexander’s ship was heading straight for a typhoon…

“Yes, Alexander.”  Fernan spoke, “By the looks of it, two choices we have…”

Butting in, Canderous continued, “Brave the storm… or take a detour and loose a week on our ALREADY lost expedition. So what does it matter, if we’re still lost either way?”

“Perhaps if you had more faith in our navigational expert, Canderous, you wouldn’t be so negative about the situation.” Alexander responded.

Reaching under the table, Fernan brought out several large maps. Laying them out, he demonstrated how he navigates and showed approximately where the ship should be.

Leaned against the wall behind the conference table, stood Malach, his upper half hidden under the shadows of the lowering sun. Personally picked to be Alexander’s right hand man in battle, Malack could be considered one of the only men in history to perfect the art of war. Self trained and heavily experienced in close combat of any kind.

“Humph.” Malach murmured.

“Say something?” Canderous asked.

“Just do what the old man says. He’s smarter then you think.” Malach responded clearly.

Canderous could do nothing but nod slowly, as he had no response otherwise.

“A choice, you must make, Alexander.” Fernan said lightly.

Webbing his fingers into each other, palms opposite extended outward and his arms stretched forward, Alexander pondered the choices.

“Even if it is important to get to the Green Isles, I believe taking on that storm would be foolish. We will navigate around it.” He finished.

Finally speaking for the first time during the meeting, Alpachi, Alexander’s helmsman, responded, “Aye, aye, cap’n. I’ll set ’er to a southwest’n course.”

As the meeting finished, everyone left the conference room… all except two. Waiting until the doors closed completely, they walked into a shadowy corner.

“Everything is going as planned… " the first said.

“Alexander will never make it to the Green Isles…” the other responded chuckling, “But… if he somehow survives?”

“That’s where you come in…”

"I like the way you think."

Chuckling softly, the two exited the conference room…

Part 3

Several days later…

“Uhh… cap’n…” Alpachi said, as he pointed at the horizon.

Caught up in a moment of intense thought and imagination, Alexander almost jumped as he turned to his helmsman. “What is it?” he said as his eyes followed Alpachi’s index finger to dark clouds on the horizon.

“That ‘ol fool gotta terrible sense ‘o direction. Looks to be a big ‘o storm ahead.” Alpachi responded.

“What!?” Alexander spat out. “Well… perhaps the storm changed course…”

Interrupting Alexander, Alpachi spat back, “We be havin no choice, cap’n! I can’t avoid it now. Either we try to go through it, or we land on an island nearby and wait for it tuh pass.”

Stepping back for a moment, he bent at the knees a little. Every moment he spent without Cassima dragged in his heart, but braving the storm… could ruin the entire voyage. His decision here could change everything.

Hesitating at first, he made his decision.

“We will brave the storm, Alpachi…”

“What? Are you mad?” the sound of the old mans voice became clear as he quickly stepped up from the deck below.

“I know that you are wise… and I have always followed your judgment, Fernan… but there are times when I must make my own decisions. We’re going through.” Alexander at first timidly responded, but ended confident in his decision.

By this time, everyone on the ship had heard what was going on, and no one felt like speaking up to Alexander… they all trusted his abilities… but perhaps too blindly?

Striding up to the side railing, Alexander stared down the storm as if it were his mortal enemy. Stretching out his arm in its direction, Alexander pointed and commanded, “Into the breach…”

Thats great stuff James, I always love to see people writing their own stories!
(Indeed, it is nice to see the fan fiction board positively flourishing with fresh talent!)

Hmm, I still have a public release excerpt from the storyboards of my KQ IX project (was never released due to fears of copyright breaches.) Pretty sure I could attempt to post it around March 19th (when an temporary free release licence will be issued to me.) I would love to hear opinions of fellow writers like yourself James! (and anyone else who cares to comment!)
When cities burn and armies turn,
and flee in disarray,
Cowards will cry 'tis best to fly
and fight another day.
But warriors know it in their marrow when they die and fall,
It is better to have fought and lost than not have fought at all.

Great story, James! We all love Alexander, if it weren't for Cassima I'd claim him for myself, me about a thousand other fangirls. Like Bushie said, men don't like to stop and ask for directions. There's a joke about that being why the children of Israel wandered for 40 years in the wilderness.  I wondered how hard it would be to navigat to the Green isles, a place not on the maps, by a few stars glimpsed outside Cassima's bedroom window in the magic mirror.  It looks like there's gonna be mutiny afoot, and a big storm!

Wow, sounds interesting, Shadowfax. I'd be happy to give you my opinion :)

And thank you Rose ^_^

I myself am a hopeless romatic at heart... hard to admit for a guy but oh well.

Thank you all, again :>

Wow, i like it

All our games got thrown out. I want to play my old kings quests. I think I may buy the collection. I remember number 2 being my least favourite because I was forever dying. Good times, good times.

I want to play 6 now
