When you started making this project, did you think about maybe using real people as the charactors? That would be a first (I believe) to have the charactor that you're controling a real person. If you do another KQ game do you think you would try, or would it just be too much work?
All that is gold does not glitter
Not all who wander are lost
The old that is strong does not wither
Deep roots are not touched by the frost

From the ashes a fire shall be woken
A light from the shadows shall spring
Renewed shall be blade that was broken
The crownless again shall be king

What do you mean by controlling a real person?  ???

I mean you flim someone walking from the back, front, side, etc. and those are your charactor loops instead of having an animated charactor. I think it would be neat! 8)

If you are talking about games like Phantasmagoria or Gabriel Knight 2, no, we did never think about it. I believe it would just kill the magic of King's Quest.

If we had the human characters to be real actors, then (for the concept of it) the most fantastic characters like unicorns, and monsters being 3D wouldn't just fit unless we had the look of Lord of the Rings, and that's just out of the question, even for a big budget game.

However, having real actors instead of 3D peeps would have made things easier in terms of.. hmm.. animations, since all you basically need is a blue screen to place your actors there and then bring that to the game.

But, then we wouldn't have been able to have so much detail on the costumes, and rest of the stuff.

All in all, I believe the best decision is to go like this. I don't think I'd ever consider doing a KQ with real actors. Heck, I don't think I'd ever consider to make another KQ, unless somebody paid me for it ;)

Yeah, I guess I was thinking all the charactors would be people. But you're right, it wouldn't seem like King's Quest. Maybe some other game...

FMV games are very 90's. I think an FMV game would look pretty hokey if it were released today, because let's face it, they did even back when they were "popular."

Cesar, I thought that you used pictures of celebrities to base your drawing and animation of the KQ characters on. Like for example, Graham is based off of Harrison Ford.  I think that is a very good idea.

The main characters were based on real people, but this thread is about making a game using the actual actors (i.e. Phantasmagoria), rather than 3D models based on them.
