I have to agree with you here. Mark Twain, Emily Bronte, Jane Austen... JK just can't compete with those. They beat her in every way possible. Those are true classics. Everything else is just modern literature, most of it junk, but no where near classic stuff. I also have trouble believing JK will someday be given the Nobel Prize, she's just too fictionous. I also don't think all that much of her writing style,but that's just my hiumble oppinion and I'm not much of a judge at that.

I agree with you. The books really have no meat, no super original storyline. Discussion makes them much more than they are.

Exactly, not to mention that the only reason people are reading them, is because they don't want to read or worry about the "real world", instead they wan't to be caught in JK's dream world of magic. In that sense the books are escapism and nothing else. In addition to the fact that no one wants to hear that the stock market's falling or that the dollar is a very unstable currency, or even worry about whether or not there's going to be a law against abortion soon (I know about Roe vs Wade, but I'm pretty sure the discussuion won't be over for a long time).

I, personally, read Harry Potter because I really like the writing style of Rowling and I can relate to the characters. I'm not going to say that it's better than the classics, but I will say that I enjoy it more. I DON'T enjoy it because I can escape into it.

I wont say that I donâ€™t read the HP books to escape into every once in a while, but I donâ€™t believe that all they are is escapism. I, like Rosella, also read them for Rowlingâ€™s writing style and for the characters. Though it isn't a classic now, I believe that one day in the future the title of "classic" will be given to it.
