Thanks everyone!  We're all still excited by the news. ;D

To answer a couple questions people asked, no we don't have to change any of the game content (i.e. characters, lands, backstory) which is a huge relief!  The title was the only thing we had to change. :)

Your thoughts on the KQ Compilations are as good as ours.  One thing we can say for sure is that The Silver Lining will not be included with them.  As I mentioned in the first post, our release date for Shadows is being pushed to sometime in 2006, so it won't be completed by the time the Compilations go out.

And yes, the game will still be free. XD

To answer Erpy,

We can't really talk much yet about legal issues (we're still on it, somehow), once we finish everything up about that, we might talk with you by email or PM which might be much more appropiated to discuss.

The Silver Lining! ;D

It's going to be tough to stop calling the game by its old name out of habit, but it's what it is now and we all have to adapt. I'm getting better at it all the time, so just try it out and you'll do just fine! ;)

That's a great relief

I am still confuse:
You said something about Shadows being release sometimew in 2006?

Is it an other thing or The Silver Lining?

Were any discussion about The Silver Lining being included among compilation in the future?

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY :D :D :D

Thank you all so much for working on this guys you make me feel like i'm in love :D

Hey and when the first part is done maybe you can make a torrent out of it to save bandwidth!!

I love you guys!!

(BTW I was the guy who asked if the story would be comparable to something like FF7 on the ask-question chat thing;D OMG the REAL Roberta & Ken williams were there!! :D :D)

I'm really really happy right now and my heart rate has doubled!!

GO POS!! ;)

It was quite a happy surprise when I checked my email today and saw a message from SaveKQIX, and a KQIX newsletter just now, with some very awesome news.  I'm so happy right now, I can barely contain my excitement. I guess all I can say is congratulations POS! ;D

As for the title change, I think The Silver Lining is a great title. :)

Shadows is the first part of The Silver Lining. :)

This is amazing! I am so happy, and actually a bit proud! We, the fans, helped in doing this! So now Phoenix can continue with their amazing work! I am just THRILLED that I will get to play this game after all! HOORAAAYYY! (I feel like screaming)

I'm going to mail Vivendi as well, and say thank you!

koko_99_2001

Yes, PLEASE email them! We need to let them know how much we appreciate them giving Phoenix Online such a wonderful opportunity! :D

Don't answer if you can't discuss this right now, but did the agreement with Vivendi include anything that may affect the distribution of the game (ie. plans to use bandwidth from other adventure sites)

HOORAY!  ;D

I guess the title is important from an official/unofficial/legalese point of view, but since nothing about the game itself is being changed I think it's a wonderful tradeoff.  It sounds like things are now proceeding exactly as before, but this time with Vivendi approval (hugely important) and a minimally modified title (barely a blip on the radar). Excellent news! :)

One question.  Why abbreviate it just to "The Silver Lining"?  Why not merely chop off the contentious "King's Quest IX" part and go with the whole "Every Cloak Has A Silver Lining"?

I was just about to ask the exact same question.

And what was VU's email addy again to thank them?

This is a huge inspiration. The whole story of the fan project working so hard, being canceled and now getting a second chance. I would LOVE to hear more about this. An article published by the team that explains what happened, how and why things worked out for the best. I think there could be some great lessons and advice for people like myself, who want to create fan games but don't want to have our work canceled.

The announcement mentions a "fan license". Is that something official from VUG that can be obtained by other developers working on fan games?

It's in Cat's (koko_99_2001) signature.

EDIT: Actually, that reminds me. Everyone can now safely remove any "Save KQIX" material from their signatures and avatars, given that The Silver Lining is back in production

It's too long.  We're going to be changing our domain from tsl-game.com in the future, and echasl.com isn't exactly easy to remember. :P

Congrats POS!!!! ;D ;D ;D
These are the best news ever :D TBH, Not for a second did I dare hope the outcome would be THAT good... but then you guys always seem to surprise us with what you manage to achieve ;)
Thanks everyone for not giving up, and for proving our community is big enough to make waves ;-D

BTW, it's a bit ironic that after everyone went knocking those 'change the name' suggestions that came up on the project shutdown thread, that's all they really had to do! :suffer:
