Why does everyone hate Connor so?

What I really didn't like were the "3D puzzles" where you had to put rocks on platforms in a certain order.  Give me a bottomless pocketfull of inventory items any day of the week!  

But all in all I did manage to finish the game with a certain amount of enjoyment, once I killed everything and was free to explore.

What Sierra failed to do with KQ : MOE was to integrate the Mask cleanly into the King's Quest universe.  I can understand that maybe it was secret and thus no one knew about it but they could they have atleast given us some sort of backstory, even a text version in the KQ manual similar to the of the Green Isles.  Sadly this way not the case    but they did add a good story summary of all previous KQs in the manual  .  Sadly this was in vain since the game had nothing to do with the previous KQs so my big question is why bother?

I don't understand how can ANYONE like Connor! He's so dry and humorless, on top of being violent and badly rendered .

And that whole mask business really bothered me too - "The mask is order" why? how? who created it? what is the job of the archons, to clean it? what is Lucreto's purpose in breaking it? and so on and so forth...
Also - why a mask? there is no reference to the symbolic meaning of a mask (masking, hiding... etc).

Not being able to attack NPC's or talk to monsters is yet another flaw of MoE - does Connor know automaticly who's good and who's evil?
I'm not saying that another KQ will have to stick to that portrayal of Connor as a shallow "kill everything in sight" guy, but THAT IS the way he is presented in MoE, like it or not.
And I didn't think Valanice was at all annoying in KQ7. At least she HAD a personality, which is more than I can say for Connor.

Also - what's with the old english crap? None of the other KQ's have that!

My issues are about MoE and not about Connor specifically... Like I said, Connor is just a symptom of the disease...  
It looks like the forums really come alive only when there's some contreversy around   we should have more of it then

you must hate D&D if you hate KQ 8
sure its mostly based of fighting but yet how many options do you want from an old game? the grafix were GREAT for that time so you can give them a brake about the role playing, if you could do every thing you said and have the same look the game would have been the best game of the year or it would have been even better then Never Winter Nights.
well some thing that I dont understand yet is, if MOE got to be best Quest of the year how come he eventually failed and all the KQ thing droped?

and yeah, as I said before ill say it again, kq8 as -a game- was alright, but perhaps not pleased enough as it should have to the true fans, (duuh kinda obvious after 8 hate pages of connor)
