Yonkey

lol, I was wondering that myself.  If you forget to mention the hyphen, do they consider it incorrect?  Also, if you are having words from foreign languages, do you have to specify the accent on letters too? ???
"A wish changes nothing. A decision changes everything."

Rosella

I don't think they had many words with accents, and I don't think you had to specify them. I don't think they even went to the foreign language words in the school spelling bee, so I'd have to ask Nikki (2nd place in the state spelling bee! :D) I was 4th in the school, so despite the creepy words, I didn't think it was too hard. :P

EDIT: But seriously, jonquil! What kind of word is that? :P

Also EDIT: [Spanish junquilla, from the name Junquello, diminutive of junco, reed, from Latin iuncus.] Apparently it's that kind of word. :P

It means "reed"?  Hahah, why didn't they just ask for that word instead?! XD

I remember coming across that word once while reading to my kid sister. She asked me what a jonquil was, and I told her that I didn't know. She didn't believe me. XD

A phrase is a group of words that fulfills a single function as a single part of speech (though technically there are independent elements like the nominative absolute that don't have a "function.")

A clause is a group of words that contains a subject and a verb (or predicate rather).

Thou=Direct pronoun
Thee=Objective case pronoun

Right? XD Yeah. Ok. "For" is a conjunction. It is not a preposition and not anything else that makes you use objective case. You would say "for I" if you were grammatically correct. :P

Now someone split this. I'm sorry. XD

IIRC, thou is the nominative or subjective case and thee is the objective case (with thy being the possessive). I think that maestro thought that "for" was acting as a preposition, and I think he was right. "For" is only a coordinating conjunction usually used to join independent clauses into compound sentences where the second sentence offers an explanation or clarification of the first. ("For" may be both a preposition and a conjunction though not at the same time: you cannot determine what part of speech a word is until you determine its function in the sentence.)

Well, at least I had the thee and thou part right. :P

But yeah, he's right. XD Both my mom and I have problems with conjunctions and comparitive thingies in grammar, the former most likely causing the latter. :P

Sorry, that last part isn't intended to be directed solely at you but rather moreso at these grammar threads in general.

The first part right after your quote was to you, but the paragraph as I stated and clarified was intended for these grammar threads. I was defending the project on the grounds that these things are either being dealt with or have been dealt with ("To deal with" something is English idiom: as the preposition "with" literally changes the meaning of the verb, it is an adverb and may come at the end of the sentence). ...Also, Yonkey, I saw the previous post about misspelling "than." :suffer:

I only defended it because I thought that justluke came off a little harsh.  ??? But if you don't want any defense or grammar lessons, I can go back to Haven. XD (I'd like to state again that I'm emoticon illiterate especially if I haven't already.)
