Yay! GRAMMAR and ORTHOGRAPHY!

You know Greek used to have a letter qoppa equivalent to q. They ditched it before the classical period and lost their u in put and oo in food sounds to sounds similar to the pronunciation of the ü in German which in Modern Greek has caused the upsilon, iota, and eta to be pronounced "i."

But, hey, why get rid of just Q? We could kill C while we're at it too and replace all  c's with s's and k's exsept in "ch" but that kan be approximated as "tsh." Then there's X to deal with... It kan be entirely tshanged into ks or z where applikable. We kan also eradikate vowel usage of y and even use diakritics for things like "hey": héj. Oh, and then there's silent E... we don't need that.

Aktuallí, the reasoning behind modern orthographí eksistans aris's from Latin (which never lost its q), Greek, and Frentsh. So, reallí, it's a matter of tradishon. Aktuallí, mei father resentlí sujested that all languajes be mád tu use the IPA, but I pointed out that usually it takes a conquest to accomplish the whole-sale destruction of traditional ethnical things such as orthography and language in general.

Really, though, reform of this area of English has been a topic of debate for quite a while, but the people who discuss it always overlook the inherent inertia of tradition.

There's lots of pairs like this... the one that's been bothering me the most lately happens to be number vs. amount. I haven't seen this Couple of Oddities... *goes looking to critique the grammar*

EDIT: well, it was kind of dull... I only found one misused less with ctrl-F...

It is PERFECTLY acceptable in American English!

and you can't send me to the grammar gaol for it. XB
I wish the British and Australians would start using jail rather than gaol. I agree with all other British spellings but gaol and goal are too similar. If I wasn't dyslexic I wouldn't have a problem with it.

Sadly, my friend, the subjunctive mood of English is dying.
