Not sure how often ya'll will see me around. I'm having some serious computer issues. My desktop won't start up (can't find the primary hard drive 0) and my mom's laptop that I'm borrowing will hardly go to any website. I'm lucky if it pulls up my email! And it never pulls up the forum. So I have to access it from work.

I will be taking my computer in to someone, I believe...when I have the money...

Have you tried pinging it?

Go to Start, Run and type "cmd"
Then type ping tsl-game.com (or some other website) and copy and paste what it says.

Thanks Neil! I'm going to try it when I get home this afternoon! If it doesn't work, then I won't be around at all on Saturday XD Though I'll have MSN.

And I've merged this topic in with my thread since it didn't really fit in the Lost and Found thread :P

Kewl. 8) Usually if you talk to an ISP about not being able to access a website, the first thing they'll try is having you reset your modem, then try pinging the site.  Then they'll try something on their end, and hopefully it'll work. :)

koko_99_2001

Well, the pinging didn't work :( How do you reset the modem?

You unplug it from the wall for a few seconds, then plug it in again.

lol, funny how easy it is. Anyone think I'm a bit illiterate when it comes to computers? :P

But, hey! I DO now know that computers have an IDE cord thingy in it :P

Ok, so as ya'll know, I've been having bad computer issues. I moved into my apartment and plugged in my computer, and it gave me the message that "primary drive 0 can not be found." I thought things were loose or something, and with Michael F.'s help, I opened up my tower and checked things. During that time, I was using my mom's old laptop that hardly let me access my email...and NEVER the forum.

On Sunday night, I decided to try reformatting my desktop and after trying some things and another message coming up, I realized my hard drive was dead. I took it into Best Buy yesterday, and they installed a new hard drive (only $134! ;D). However, after loading things on my computer last night, I couldn't access the internet. So...today after work, I got on the phone with Dell. And let me tell you...the woman who helped me was AWESOME! She knew exactly what to do and took care of everything. Yeah, it took 2 hours (I only know that because my phone tells me how long I've been on the phone) but she had such charisma that we laughed the whole time we were working.

As ya'll know, I'm completely computer illiterate....and having the help of Michael, Neil, and the Dell woman was amazing. Thank you to everyone!

So, a hint...if your computer's running extremely slowly. If it makes clicking sounds when you are downloading something. If it is really loud...it's a sign the hard drive's going XD I had no clue! And I noticed when I was on the phone with my previous roommate that my computer is completely quiet now! So...YAY! :D

You got lucky with the Dell help. I've called Dell with problems before and they never are any help, I end up going to the local computer store who always fix it (but it's always expensive)

Yeah, lik I was telling Cat, my hard drive ended up dying a few days ago as well.  It's not completely dead yet though, because I forgot to backup YonkMod and had to stick it back in to get it.

For me, it was giving blue screens and getting very sluggish when there weren't any other programs running.  One blue screen was about a corrupt system file, so I had to re-install Windows.  Then I got more blue screens, then started to get "Delayed Write Errors".

That was when I bought a new laptop hard drive & installed it.  I was going to ask a repair shop to do it, but the guy said it would have cost a couple hundred bucks, and I can really just do it myself.  It's not much different than installing a PC hard drive, only there's no IDE cable.  It plugs in directly to the motherboard.

Anyway, now I'm just in the process of copying all the files I backed up again, and re-installing everything.  There's another folder I forgot to back up, so I'll be switching back to the old hard drive again tonight.  Hopefully it won't die in the mean time. :P

Wow, I didn't realize it'd been so long since my thread had been posted in. Anyway, just needing to talk something out. Today was a crazy day at work. Back in November, we had a child TOTALLY freak out about going to speech because he was afraid he would miss recess (that's what it boiled down to, but it was a long story including about six teachers and probably 8 police officers...and the kid is in 1st grade!)

Anyway, today I go to grab him for speech and he was asking for his teacher. I kept saying we'd have speech first and then he'd get to see his teacher. This happened about four times, and then I was like "if he's trying to get some attention, I'll just not answer" so I didn't...since it was the same answer each time. We had to go pick up another child from the classroom, so we did that. The boy ended up standing behind the door. At this time, I didn't realize what was going on, so I was like "oh, you were hiding from me :)!" Then he shouts out "no!" and goes across the hall. I grab his wrist and my other hand is on his back, trying to guide him down the hallway. He keeps saying no, trying to grab onto the wall and a table. Somehow he broke away from me and I had to run after him. Of course, I almost reach him, slip and fall, and I hear someone behind me ask if I'm ok. I'm not paying any attention, jump up and run. Finally we're in his classroom and one of the teachers trained in restraining kids is in there helping me. Someone had gotten his teacher and she's in there with us.

Eventually, we get him calmed down (and of course, I'm shaking because this is the first time I've had to deal with something like this), and he gets on the phone with his mom. This was actually mild compared to what happened before Thanksgiving. He ends up back in his class, and the other speech therapist looks at me and tells me to take the rest of the day off.

Oh, and the kid, after he started talking to us, said he was afraid his teacher would forget that he had speech and take the other kids out to recess while he was gone...

Anyway, the story of my day. And I thought it was going to be an uneventful one!

Wow, was recess really worth all that? ::)

This kid sounds a little too... intense.  Does he have some sort of mental disorder?
"A wish changes nothing. A decision changes everything."

koko_99_2001

More testing is about to be done, but I think it's more emotional than a mental disorder. I feel for him, I really do. I did get to talk to the mom, and being contracted into the school instead of employed by it, I felt I could say more than others could. I was very calm, but was like "well, we can't get him out of speech because then he'll realize that if he acts like this, he can get out of anything." After about ten or fifteen minutes on the phone with her, she got kinda silent. I just hope that I got through to her.

Oh... I see now.  So it's more like he's some bratty kid that always gets whatever he demands from his parents.  Yeah, that's tough, because some parents actually get more offended by you telling them their child is misbehaving, rather than the misbehaviour itself.  They probably feel it's easier to just give in, than to deal with the temper tantrums.

Anyway, the fact that it's the second time something like this happened should hopefully make her take some sort of disciplinary action.  Chasing kids around isn't exactly part of your job description. :P

Mm, I doubt that's the case. From what I know of the previous incident it's more like the kid just has really cruddy parents. And actually perhaps gets too little. It's really quite sad if you ask me. Poor kid.* :-X

Maybe, but isn't there 3 recesses in a day?  It's not like speech would take up all 3, so there's definitely something odd going on there for him to act that extreme.

Well I agree. Definitely extreme. :P

If it was one of my brothers, I would give him a brief lecture on the importance of saying little things such as why he wants to see his teacher before causing a tumult, maybe smack him he being a total idiot and forget about it, but that's just me. :P  Also, if you ever need to restrain children, don't forget the ears. :P The school might not like it, but from personal experience of growing up with 4 little brothers I assure you it is quite the best place to grab. Any attempt to twist away hurts, making sure it isn't repeated. ;P Of course for a 1st grader that might be overkill, you can just pick them up and carry them. :P

Also I am mildly curious, where did 8 police officers get into this? Were they bored school police looking for something to do or have moderns totally lost their ability to manhandle the young? XD
