I Have to Say This
« on: July 20, 2006, 03:08:20 PM »
Being a KQ fan since 1995, and waiting for almost a decade for another KQ game to come out after MOE, I have to say that when TSL is released, besides being very very excited to play it and really happy, I'm also going to feel a bit awkward, but in a good way.
It's like...Wow...I'm actually going to be exploring the Green Isles again, you know? And this time in 3D! And I'm actually going to get to meet Shadrack, and know about the BCS..
For me, it'll be like coming inside a house that you lived in and have memories of from long ago, but haven't been inside for many years. Or like meeting an old friend from a time long past. Maybe I'm just nuts, but that's how I feel.
And I also feel that it's an exciting time to be a King's Quest, or Sierra fan in general, and I hope that other fan projects (Such as the SQ7 project and others) have as much success as POS has had that way new generations can enjoy the Classic Sierra games and the old school fans can relive them again!

It is indeed a great and wonderful thing POS is doing. Welcome home! ;D  Though in all honesty I can't say I'm been a KQ fan more than a few months I also find it quite an excellent thing.

I wish I could have discovered computer games earlier, especially the great Sierra classics. But then, I probably wouldn't have been able to finish them as a child. I was 15 when I first started out with KQV. I had a bit of a crush on Graham, despite how old he was and that he was married. Then I had a crush on Alexander. I really like KQVII. Playing thsi game will be like going back to a world I love and am familiar with, and seeing new places and new people there. Kind of like a magical mansion-house where the rooms change into something different and new.

It is always a magical thing to play a kings quest game for the first time. 8)

You're exactly right, it'll be like opening the door to your childhood bedroom and being like, "Oh wow, I forgot about all those itty-bitty details!"  XB

I absolutely love that they've resurrected the characters and locations that we remember and love.  How often does something like this actually come to fruition? The best part is, the team are King's Quest fanatics just like we are, so everything will be from the point of view of a fan.  I'm sure that the things we (as players) always thought that were funny, weird, pointless, etc, will be remembered by the developers as well.

I can't wait!  :D

Yes...but its equally magical to leave a kq game for a year or a year and half and then replay it or more I did just that. I replayed the game after 10 years some 3 years ago and am going to replay as soon as i finish with more urgent matters. I;ve already started, though just to see, and it feels great, just like for the first time.

Things get better with age.

Now if things are like that with the old games, I can imagine myself playing the TSL game. I will be totally asorbed by the magic, riveted to the screen, wishing to contonue to adventure, I bet I will.

Such is the magic those tales cast
that playing them becomes a must..

WOW, this thread just made me notice..... I don't know how to beat this game!  I haven't played it 100,000,000,000 times like all the others, and it's REALLY gonna be a quest, just like for me when I first played KQ5!  THe last time I did that was when Kq7 came out, and I was too little to fully appreciate it!

So true, atec. I haven't played a NEW Sierra game since GK3(I liked it more than alot of people I think, but then I also cheated like crazy). And not a new KQ since KQVII came out. It'll be weird to play something in Sierra style, brand new, as an adult.

It will be interesting playing a sierra game as an adult. God that is a scary thought.  :o Maybe being older with a more logical mind will help me to solve the puzzles faster. Then again it could cause me to become so lost and confused because I am thinking to hard. We'll have to wait and see but I am glad it will be a summer release so my school work won't fail.  8)

Oh my gosh. something similar to that happened to me!  I downloaded an old game called "Veil of Darkness" and I COULD NOT figure out this one obstacle.  I was trying to get a quill from this monk, and I typed in everything I could think of to get it.  Finally, frustrated, I Googled it and discovered that the answer was the one (and most obvious thing) that I never tried: "Ask for quill."   ::)

I am so used to the newer games and tougher puzzles that I overanalyzed and sat there for 20 minutes before I gave up.  Strangely, I hope that it's like that with TSL.  If I am thinking waaaaaay too hard about the puzzles in order to solve them, then I know this will be a worthy KQ game.   :-*

OH DEAR. Haids! Thank you so much for bringong up this game! I haven't played THAT in AGES and i liked it when i first played it a coupe of years ago. it was relatively simple. I will haqve to give that one a go too. I have totally forgotten about that game.
There was another one...one was called Fale and the ner i think Dragon Sphere which I haven't played  in a looooong while and which I should, maybe revisit, at least for old time's sake.  Its true once you get into the spirit of mind-bending puzzles, it;s difficult to think about something easy. It;s always darkest beneath the lamp.
Also i;m thinking of replaying kyrandi 3 though that one had pretty tricky puzzles or so i thought. I wonder how it will be if i play it now.

Thanks, Haids!   Sorry for the rant but I got really excited.

I don't play many non kq/qfg adventures, but I was having SO much trouble some places in KQ 3, I will say if I remember any.  It's sometimes that you just think to hard, as you guys have said. :P

DUDE, you just went up about 2,349,745 cool points to have played Veil!  :smitten: You're the only person outside of my family to remember it!   :o  You are awesome!

And don't worry about the rant--I understand completely!  We're kindred spirits, I believe.   ;D

I guess few people would really play that game today. But it was a fine rpg-adventure mix, more adventure inclined though as there were some rpg e;ements missing uch as character improvement/skill system, for which i did like sierra's quest for glory.  Speaking of which. Atec, which one is your favourite part (remakes included)

It was a fine, fun game, veil of darknessand ismetric perspective fitted well with it.

As far as fantasy games are concerned i seem to be now remebering others too.Games whuch i haven't played in a good couple of years. I liked Loom. Dragon Sphere. Fable. There was also something called Curse of Enchantia but I vaguley remeber it having some annoying interface. Discowlrd was fun. And loom was pretty unique.
I rember playing Callahan's Crosstime saloon but now i;m not sure if i liked it or not. there was something original about it that appealed to me. Lure of the temptress was ok but it had that annoying error that forced you to restart the game.

Ah memories. It;s nice to take the trip down the memory line, for the time being only as a post but it would be tie to replay them all, time-permitting. Will make sure to get ack to Veil of darkness.

  Haids. :)

I liked DragonSphere. Interesting plot twists, crappy voicepack.
In case you didn't know, there's a slightly different alternate ending if you manage to get full score ;)

I think I got one ending but I'm not sure which one was it. As for voicepack I agree :)
Don't you just love it when there are more endings? I do.
