Two other things I DON'T want to see -
1. References to stuff only Americans know about!!
They make me feel stupid and uninformed):c

2. A thing I didn't like about KQ2+ - too many references to other KQs. It might be really annoying for people who haven't played them, especially if they go unexplained. :P

I don't want any time-limited puzzles (like the iceburg lettuce melting in KQ6, giving the life at the end of Kq7, etc).  It's nice that they're realistic but annoying when you don't know what to do with them and they expire before you figure it out.

Something I liked in KQ7 was how it would resume where you left off, if you accidentally killed yourself.  I don't really want an auto-saving thing.  If you killed yourself by mistake and last saved ages ago, it would be nice to just resume where you left off before your death.

Well, KQ 7 was good for that reason, yet it wasn't.  What if you missed a vital clue somewhere?  there are a LOT of triggers in that game, and if you miss it, or weren't paying attention, you can't just quit and come back when you figured it out (unless you wanna lose everything you did since the last save).

About that game..On my cd (which fails to work now), when you quit, it makes a new bookmark and saves.  On the Collection though, you can save and keep going, save and quit, and also NOT save and keep playing or quit.  Anyone else notice that?

KQ7 had no choke-points, so the saving system was only a b**** if you didn't know that OR liked to replay parts of the game.  :o
I don't know about the collection, but the saving system makes you play the whole game on the same saved game because you can't save to a different name than the one you gave when you started the game, and the only way NOT to save the game on exit is to close the game window without properly exiting it :P

I don't mind about timed quests so much - they are usually pretty obvious ;D

Timers are okay I guess, but I hate it when you ONLY have enough time to IMMEDIATLY perform the task.  if you give extra time, it's better, since it give the player a little more time to figure out what they need to do in the time (in case the don't already know) without having to make them restore the game.

Well Storm, I don't think a lot of people on the team are american anyway, so i don't think you have to worry about too many American references.  Even if there are, Most likely they'll be at the expense of americans (sicne you know, americans tend to be arrogant, greedy, and dumb, and half the world makes fun of the american people for this...).  Not that I know ANYTHING abou this game (since Cesar is keeping his mouth shut, we need a crowbar!), but I'm just guessing...

I always hated that about KQ7, the saving game thing that only let you save when you quit!!  It was so annoying. I mean, yeah it let you "try again" if you died, but....argh! I didn't like it.

Sorry, maybe I was a bit unclear.  I liked the fact that it would remember where you left off before you died (as opposed to restoring to a hopefully previous point just before).

I hated the auto-save thing.  My cousin and I used to both solve the game together.  We would save where we both left off.  If I discovered anything new, I would save there too.  The next time he came over, we would resume from the first point (possibly picking up on clues that I missed out on before).  With the auto-save thing, you couldn't do that unless you illegally terminated it in win95 hehehe.

The only problem with that though, Is the inconsitancy of the same memebrs on the team..So if you  guys DID end up doing something like that, i'd be wisse to wait until the very end, so the team that ends up in the game is the team that actually STAYED on the team..

That's a fun idea!

I love the choice of dialogue in the Monkey Island games. Even if you have to search to find the lines that will continue the plot/give clues/etc., it's all so funny that I don't get bored or irritated. When I replay the games, I love to go through all the choices of dialogue I can, especially in the later games (3 and 4) where you can hear Dominic Armato's adorable and hilarious Guybrush voice.

And then, for another example, in Neverwinter Nights, you have dialogue choices that all move the story along, but allow you to sort of choose your personality -- you can be rude, or kind, or whatever.

So anyway, I like dialogue choices, but I don't necessarily need them either. I'll be happy with them or without them.

On a different note, one thing I would NOT want to see in KQ9 is Rosella married to Edgar (the Four Winds seems to suggest that she and Edgar are still courting -- I was happy to see that). I like that Rosella isn't ready to settle down yet. She has her father's adventuresome sprirt :)

And, a few minor things I would like to see: give Valanice blue eyes (I HATED that green color in KQ7!) and please cut Edgar's hair (at least a little) ;)

Reference wise, well, I wasn't born here, so I don't go much for american references. We go much for universal stuff, or what "becomes" universal. (Such as fairy tales)

I, too, hate dead ends that require just about starting over. Although, I'm rather sure you should still be able to get on the rope even if you did cut the bucket off of it. Maybe by typing jump or something, I think. Don't quite recall, but I'm rather certain I've done that.

I just managed to complete it!  Yeah, I didn't need the bucket attached, I could just let down the rope and climb it.  I think it's a  dead end if you forget to pick up the mushroom though.

I don't know why everyone mind mapping so much. I think it's some of the fun in playing, plus it makes the game last longer. Talking about annoying maze-mapping, did anyone ever tried Kyrandia 1? that annoying maze where you have to use fire berries... now THAT I could have done without ::)
