Hmm...a new idea

I loved making maps. From the basic ones of King's Quest III to the bit larger one of Quest for Glory 1. Just adds to the dimention of it and gives a greater since of exploration. It's kinda cool to map out territory, make notes, ect.

Yeah, I hate those path puzzles, too. I'm going to refer to those as "drunk walk" puzzles from now on, like getting stopped by a cop and that whole "walk a straight line" bit!

Hopefully we'll be able to include voices, but again that's kind of in the future and all. :)

I liked the point about the 'not being killed by monsters' bit.

I think there should be deadly monsters / areas in the game, but dying should not 'end the game' but rather take you back to either the previous screen or...

Give KQ9 a notion of 'days'.  If you die, go back to the start of the day and say, "it looks like you were just having a nasty dream."

Sure, this might mean you have to do a few things more than once, but it'll be a little less 'keep trying until you succeed' than returning to the previous screen.  It'll also give more merit to saved games, whilst not making them totally essential.

Obviously, a day wouldn't be particularly long.  It could also add an extra element to the game.  "It's getting late, better get back to somewhere safe."

In response to your 2nd point, that's why I said the above.

But, if it's too late it's too late. :)  Just a thought.

Ahh, missed that part of it, sorry!

Well, also if you're playing a game that has a limit on how many days are passing that would be an issue.

And for all you trying to pick up clues from us, that doesn't mean anything! :P

KQ7 had a feature sort of like that, but I hated it. I prefer just saving the game over any method, provided I can save the game where I please. Just make sure you have plenty of save game slots!!!! 100-200 would be good, I tend to go through them fast, sometimes I like to go back and watch certain sequences again. :)

But yeah, I suppose if a player is going into a dangerous area, it could be like in KQ5 where the forest had a "DO NOT ENTER" sign, and Cedric also mentions things like "Watch out for that poisonous snake" and "the desert is awfully dry, I'm not going in there!" The idea was that if Cedric stayed away, you know it's a fairly dangerous place to enter and a good idea to save before you enter and many times while in it.

I'm not saying we should revive Cedric, I personally liked him but I'm sure he annoyed other people like crazy, but maybe subtle hints (signs, etc) to warn the player that a dangerous area is coming up would be good.

Of course, some are just plain obvious, if you're climbing a steep cliff you're gonna save like crazy. ;)

What's so bad about a sudden death now and then? ???
Sure, I didn't care much for random monsters (like in KQ1) but having a screen where you get killed just by entering it isn't so bad.
Are adventure players really that lazy, that they hate drawing maps or starting over when they die so much? :o

I hate starting over. I think that if you have saved games, what's the point of going all back again. It's not as if you are playing an arcade where you have to survive for a certain period of time. "Try again" God Bless whoever created that.

I hate mazes (there are some in KQ9 but with another concept)

About nasty monsters... oh well, I don't want to spoil a few of the surprises ;)

There are no dead ends (hate these as well)

There may or may not be different ways to solve puzzles (We still need to see if we add some different ways to solve the puzzles)

We were originally going to implement a day/night cycle, but the idea was thrown off/got lost during final decisions.

There are a lot of nice ideas still there :)

And an almost finalised rough script as well !!!!

Enough for progress report ;)

oh, and by the way, if you wonder why I never really tell anything about the story is because I'm one of those people that HATE, totally HATE when somebody tells me the story of a movie before I can see it (or book, or game for that matter). I NEVER spoil stories for others. I enjoy people's shock and excitement as they journey through the ride blindfolded, not knowing where the next turn will be. And this is one ride thatnot even the top 30 rollercoasters out there- together -, would beat when it comes to twists and sudden drops and ups. ;)

I forgot to mention that for those who, like me, love to save everywhere so then later they can come back and rewatch some sections, we'll implement a "rewatch cutscenes" option, as there will be quite a few of those, and memorable enough to watch once and again... :)

Good, that's a handy feature of any adventure game.

Yay for re-watching cut-scenes!  I didn't like the KQ7 auto-save thing, becuase I didn't get to watch the Crystal Dragon over and over...  Also the bit with Fernando.  I like that bit, even if he was sad and upset.

I don't wanna see Connor.  I know a lot of people don't, but if he's there, please make it a cameo, of him just doing something and then GOING.

Oh, is this a 2D or 3D game?  Because I really liked the 2D games!  Also, please don't make the voices annoying, like in KQ5.  The voices stopped me playing...  As well as the horrible desert bit.  I don't like things making me die like that.

Lastly, if you are including American references, in my opinion it should be done minimally.  Some of us don't know enough about America!  But these are only my opinions :P

Many of the answers you are looking for will be in the next Inventory issue.  This should also end the 2D/3D debate about KQ9.

Yeah, it was all really really good. :)

It's nice to see a lot of info on the game's progress once in a while, it's like super-suspense and people's patience is rewarded.

Although... at another place (//www.forumplanet.com/planetanachronox/) Patch 2 is still yet to be out, and I've been waiting quite a while (though others have waited longer). Anachronox may not exactly be pure adventure, there is quite a lot of good old adventure-type puzzles in it. I just wish they could release the version of Patch 2 that currently exists (but only for the beta-testers to test). Ah, well, supposedly by July we will hear something.

About running around and getting something and then back the whole way, that's just king's quest style. But it would be fun if you didn't have to do everything in order and put somethings,NOT EVERYTHING in any order, like Space Quest 3. Are their going to be dead ends in the game?

P.S.: with the way you people are going on I think it will have a perfect voice acting!(Or maybe not :'( )

Say

oh dont worry about the voice acting, mike is really good, I heard some demos of him for the game already and I doubt at least that is going to be something to worry about 8) , anyways, about the dead ends, someone started that thread on general, and no, the script was planned and written in order that things happen consequently with no dead ends.
