Being a beta-tester has some advantages in that you get to see it before the public! Do you need any past experience beta-testing? I've never tested a game before! Does that hurt my chances? But I bet I know Yonkey's answer to that!  :suffer:!

You answered your own question: :suffer:

Deloria

As I'm a member of the team, may I please have a *real* answer? :P
(I've only ever beta-tested one game, a *dead* version of KQ3 that's several years old, there was a big bug that prevented one from getting any further so I kinda had to break it off :P)

At first I was going to post this in our private forums, but I thought that fan input might be valuable. I'm wondering exactly how we're going to go about bug reporting, both in the beta testing phase and even after release. Are we going to go along the route of automatically-generated error reports (in which case we'd probably have to include some kind of statement in the End-User License Agreement which would give us consent from the players to do this, or at least have the system prompt the player to send the bug report and allow them to read its contents), or would it be a forum/email-based system?
Once the votes are read, the decision is final. The person voted out will be asked to leave the Tribal Council area immediately. I'll read the votes...

Yonkey

I'm pretty sure it won't be automatic reporting, since the game doesn't have that feature. :P  Reporting will probably be via e-mails, MSN and possibly private forum, depending on the number of testers.

I don't know how this whole hype about beta testing got started in the first place, we haven't really announced anything so far so nothing is official just yet. Truth is, as the PR director and lead of this project, I can guarantee you that once we open vacants to betatesting, OBVIOUSLY, our close fans and friends shall be the very first to know.

We are NOT going to look for random outsiders to beta test, so for those guests who have posted interest in such, I'm sorry but we won't take the chance for the demos get released without our consent, so therefore we want no troubles with VU to begin with. We will release it once we get the go, and we will select testers once Cesar believes it's completed enough for such. In the meantime, do follow the nice and kind advises of Daniel AND Neil :P. Being someone known in the community and obviously becoming someone that not only supports but that we could trust is a huge plus. Take a look at what happened with Koko, she even lead one of the biggest petition request in the adventure world and not only the fans helped us move along things with VU but ALSO got her a special position in our team which obviously gets her special treatment with us due to an amazing work done and unconditional support.

Phoenix Online Studios thrive on having the community participating because WE are the community, even though we can't breath and live TSL 24/7 we do as much as we can and we treasure it as much as it's humanly possible :)

Thanks for the support, yet again. Good stuff are coming our way, specially for May ;)

You mean, "your" way, don't you! Not "our way" as it suggests you are getting some surprises! And that indicates that the big update is next month!

QuoteBeing someone known in the community and obviously becoming someone that not only supports but that we could trust is a huge plus.

Do I qualify in this respect? (If this is not a good place to answer it, then just PM me the answer if you want!)

I support you nowhere near 100%, but instead, far over that. somewhere near a thousand or so! You've done what I've always wanted to do, but never had the resources or the courage! You stood up to VUG, and did the impossible! For that, I admire your devotion to the project so much more now! I'm happy that there is still a fanbase out there for the KQ universe! You all proved that fans can do so much more than the common misconception! Fans are who really hold the power! The fans determine the future of something. They decide how much gets bought (or in this case, downloaded!), they decide how far the series spans, and so much more! The reason KQIX does not exist is because the fans decided not to buy MoE because it looked (and was) bad! But either way, would you rather buy the game, never use it, and then have another one coming, that could improve! (But if that were to happen, POS would never have existed! One decision truly can change the course of history, unanimous or not!) POS is a group of fans themselves, who thought it neccesary that KQ be revived, and they have created what VUG should have done in the first place! But the fans are who know the story better than any producer could ever hope! They know if a game truly is or isn't bad! And just from looking at the screenshots and the trailer, I know in my heart that POS will have a massively downloaded game! (an MDG! The first of it's kind! XD!) Whether you're a beta-tester or not, be happy that you got to participate in a truly moving experience! You may not realize it, but we all play a very important role in this! When POS was shutdown, I noticed that we had banded together. For that, I think the shutdown was a good thing, as we all learned to work together to defeat the boss of the level! We're on level two now, that may face even more challanges, and we all helped them win the battle! We all had a part in making the game, one way or another! With our unanimous support, the team grew stronger and stronger, until they were ready to defeat the big boss! We are the ones who truly have the power, and the only ones who can truly stop the boss!

Sorry about stretching the forum! I just wanted to go on a rant! Delete it if you want, but just know that I like it!

Aww.. I wouldn't delete it :)

About the beta.testing, to be honest it all comes down to when Cesar sits down with us and tell us "Ok guys, bring the testers". AND either way, this is something that won't be run just by me, but by the directors and all, so obviously I can vouch for fans and people that I know from around here, that are known in our community and that we could trust. Because once give we might need fast reply to comments and open communication and whatnot.

I appreciate the hype so far, because it's not official yet everyone is dying to get to know tips in how to become one lol :) And yeah, you'd qualify, as well as many other friends of the community which are yet to be active, like Copycat, Storm... maybe others like Jason, Rosella, James even Daniel, Deloria, Jafar and many others that day after day they are so commited and loving to what the TSL community is :) But, hence I know it might be first a scanning process and therefore a luck pick, it'd be silly for me to jump ahead and say more than what I know about it so far.

POS shall grow to be a company that would connect to the fans in ways that not other companies seem to do so. They'd rather just focus on numbers as well as figures that would give them all the answers, so far TSL has been built with that but provided by a community that has gathered like a family, providing us not just figures to appear featured in big places like any of the magazines we've been to, but also to shape up a strong field of eager fans that love to be part of a process like this as well as would love to support and be there for as much as they can, supporting or participating in any way needed.

And I totally agree, the fan is the one who has the voice :)

Yay! Say agrees! Thank you for not deleting my rant! It means so much to me! The thing about POS is that the pruducers aren't just producers! They're also fans, and are dedicated to their work, and that's why I am so intriqued by what you all have done so far. The smallest group of fans can truly do the impossible. And you aren't anywhere near small, but you get the idea! Family guy was cancelled twice, and revived twice, because the fans didn't want it to die! Futurama is on the verge of new life, as there are plans for new DVD movies, and maybe a fifth season down the road, mainly because the fans are expressing how they feel of the lack of new eps by buying the DVDs. It's similar here! You are all dedicated to the project, and want to see it continue, beyond what the series says!

But my question is this (which is a little far off, but still!): When/if you guys go off to a new project after TSL, will it be an entirely new team donning the same name, with a different staff, or will it stay the same? Like, after Eternities, will the team change for a new game? So hypothetically, you decided to make SQ7, would you have a new team for that, comprised of fans, or would you stay the same?

But either way, you are so dedicated, and it truly inspires me. When you have a dream that you don't want to let go, you keep on fighting through all odds, no matter what they may be, no matter the cost, and you fight far past the end! You keep on fighting even after the battle was lost! With the VU incident, the fans kept on fighting! You did so much for the fans, that they had to repay you, and this incident was that repayment! It brought the fans closer together! I now feel like I know some of the users here personally, as if I've known them for a while! And I have you guys to thank for it!

You have built an entire universe online here! In the Ye Elde Deloria Threade, I can visualize almost everything, because it's so detailed and nice. There are practically no flamers or any of the sort! We all live in an online Utopia here!

To answer, I must say this first. TSL is clearly our first goal, Shadows is something that we simply must deliver. Hopefully the coming games might be somehow scheduled in a different perspective asuming that we'd have much better position to consider financing, otherwise it might continue to be difficult, yet not impossible.

About whatever holds in the future for POS, I can tell you that TSL is only  the beggining, we've gathered a strong team of creative individuals and the core team of POS was born in TSL. We will move on to a different project whenever time is due and we're capable of doing so. And yes, we might gather different teams for different games just like in the game industry, each project having specific teams, most likely to be somehow different. And I might speak for the team when we say this shall be our first and last remake, we will aim for original, therefore thriving on a real company standard budget, hopefully.

And about the community, yes. Personally I've been to other communities and the enviroment is completly different. TSL friends are down to earth, really nice, friendly and kind, also from ALL ages which pleases us greatly and we've got from KQ fans to any other Sierra fan as well. It's just a great place to be thanks to everyone who makes it so :), You.

I'm the PR director and obviously you guys are my reason to be here, even though it's what I love doing, I might say that I do know that at least Cesar and Neil feel just the same about you guys :)

Didn't you guys know that Neil started just the same? :) One fine day, I just kidnapped him from the forum, and even though he had a bumpy road (when he applied he had time but when I hired him he didn't!!) Now everyone just loves Neil, he's been Director and the biggest help in so many departments, he's also part of Coordination. Seriously, Cesar and I couldn't be without him :)

Definitely.  There wouldn't be any point in making this game if we didn't have people out there like you guys to actually enjoy it.  :) We probably wouldn't even have gotten permission from VU to continue without the support from all our fans.
