The game works well in 98SE now.  I had to disable sound acceleration under the Direct X as Shades suggested.  The game froze once when I went as graham to the room and got the coin(s) from the trunk and tried to change into graham with the hat.  The next time I changed into graham with the hat first and got the coin(s) next and the game did not freeze.  I had to click on another island before being able to click on the isle of the sacred.  The sound was a little hard to understand when the oracle was talking.  This was the main difference I noticied between 98SE and XP Pro. was that it was easier to understand the oracle for me in XP Pro.  Well, that is about it folks.  8)

This is not a Tech Support issue.  This forum is for ongoing technical support issues with the TSL Demo... not discussion on an issue that is clearly documented on another section of the forum (Programming section under the thread "System Requirements?".

And for the record, while I'm on the subject, the reason why TSL requires Windows 2000 or Windows XP is because the majority of readily available 3D cards are not compatible with Windows 98SE due to the lack of driver support from the manufacturers.  Does that mean the game won't work on Windows 98SE?  Not at all... there are 3D cards that will work perfectly fine that have Win98SE drivers available.  However... those cards are not commercially available (that is to say, you won't find a Radeon 9250 for sale at your local CompUSA or Best Buy).

There are many possible exceptions, but if you list the minimum required Operating System as Windows 98SE, your going to have people going out and buying Radeon X800 or GeForce series 6 or 7 video cards, dropping them into their Win98SE computers, and then wondering why the card doesn't work.

That said, it is my opinion that Windows 98SE remain where it is in regards to O/S compatibility... which is to say, in the "Unsupported O/S" category.

Try adjusting the DirectX audio bar up one notch and see what happens.
It might work.

I see where you are going with this but Windows 98SE is still the best operating system in my opinion.  I dual-boot with 98SE and XP PRO. and the system requirements do mention 98SE.  I will continue this discussion in the system requirements thread but wanted it posted here since this game does run in 98SE and there was some question about it.  IMO, it actually runs better in my 98SE than in my XP PRO!

The only problem with 98SE that I see is that it is more limited than XP Pro.  It can only really use 512 mb's of memory compared to XP Pro. that can support up to 4 gigabytes.  If you configure 98SE properly it is the greatest of the 9x line of operating systems, imo.  XP Pro. would probably be considered the best of the NT (New Technology) line so far.  I hear that Vista will have an entirely new code but I really do not know much about this but I hope to test Vista at some point on a separate and hidden partition so it cannot hurt my computer.  Actually, I do not really suggest 98SE for someone unless they are really comfortable with tinkering with their computer to get it working really well or if they have an old PC that does not run XP or runs XP really poorly.  I have now found that 512 mb's of memory is not enough for XP Pro. for my purposes and so I will upgrade it to 1 or 2 gigabytes and make the proper adjustments to 98SE to limit it to seeing only 512 mb's.
