What was your first KQ?

All right, my first quest was Kq1 (designed for PCjr) played on an early pc/Xt machine. Only had a monochrome amber monitor at the time so a few things were hard to find. Also was convinced that it was a fire breathing rabbit and not a dragon.

Actually I should claim the earlier Castle game programmed by the Williams' in DOS. Still have it to this day but don't have an operational early pc to play it on Dos 2.6 or 3.0. Might have to try to put it into Dosbox after I hook up an old 5.25" drive.

For those who don't know Castle was a game where you maneuvered through a castle with a well(healing)  and secret doors and passages. Had about 4 levels <<vertically>> if i remember correctly. Probably about 25-30 rooms/screens all told - Balconies, dungeons etc... All from a top down point of view. You were attacked by dangerous capital letters(Monsters) while you tried to find bits of the extended Ascii character set(treasures - remember the necklace?)

Sounds wierd I know, but this game came out 80-82ish if i remember correctly. I even remember using Norton's Utilities with some friends at the time to alter the castle maps. <<Probably 84>>

Anyway thats where I started on KQ & Sierra & the Williams.

Ignore the fact that other countries got it as 8. They were just trying to make more sales before everyone in the US warned them.

On the front cover it says: Kings Quest 8: Maske der Ewigkeit. (it was written in german, but it played in English with german subtitles)

I can still remember when I first set sail on a quest for Cassima long ago...
I still love to hoodwink the sences and fight the Minotaur.
It seems only yesterday that saved Cassima, and I will always remember my first Adventure.

Yweah. I loved that game. Except for the ending when everyting's perfect and Alexander can't get the words out to propose to Cassima.

You hate it because he finds it hard to talk to girls or what?

I remember KQV driving me crazy till I cheated and went on the Sierra message board years later.  I also played KQVII and that darned harp in Etheria drove me crazy too. I got the KQ collection after I graduated from high school. Now I enjoy writing fanfiction from the games. Please read my fanfics.

The Sierra message boards aren't cheating. Walkthroughs are cheating, the boards were for hints.

Yeah I have the same problem as Deloria. Only an advertisement for Avarity.com and it's the same when I copy the link into the address bar
