Okay... a dumb question.

Is PR, in any way, connected to moderating?

I wouldn't ask, except for Say and Yonkey's positions in the team.

Yonkey

Yup, you get to do some forum management as PR Assistant, but most of the work is with outside forums and sites.

With regards to modeling, I suggest the best thing is to learn the concepts well, as Grundy suggested, and get the free program Wings3D. It is a tool designed specifically for polygon modelling, and I have to say that it employs one of the fastest workflows around.
http://www.wings3d.com/
It's free, open source, has a fast workflow (based on Mirai), and can import/export to a range of formats.

But remember, Wings is only a tool. You need to be understand modeling principles well don't expect to create any clean, nice looking meshes with it (or any other tool).

Yonkey

I forgot to mention this before, but we are currently looking for: 3D Animators, 3D Texturists and Programmers.  For further information on these positions and more, visit the Positions page.  :)

Well, you can apply for the 3D Background Texturer over here.  Feel free to browse the other positions on that page and apply for what interests you the most.  :)

I'd like to talk about a position as programmer. The requirements list knowledge about the engine you're using, but I have yet to find a way in which I might acquire this affinity.

My resume:

Game Experience
4 years at Delft University of Technology (still there), studying Computer Science. During the years of this study I have developed two games. One 3D platform game using the OGRE 3d graphics rendering engine (c++). The second was an educational game for the Museon (a museum in the Hague), the results can be seen here: http://innovatix.its.tudelft.nl/~museon/index.php?langu=uk using Flash. Currently I am also working on the production of a game for myself, though, because I'm yet to finish the Engine, I cannot tell you much about it.

Programming
I have developed serious programs in c, c++, java and csharp.

Web experience
I work for a web-design company www.fabrique.nl as a webprogrammer in the following languages: php, asp, jsp, html, flash (mx 2004), xml/xsl/xslt, sql.
Examples of sites I have worked on:
www.ahold.com
www.lowlands.nl
www.cordys.com
www.etos.nl

I'm not part of the programming department, so I don't understand the language myself, but this should be somewhat useful.

and good luck. :)

Yonkey

Thanks for applying, JWar!  You'll be hearing from me soon. :)

How in depth is the programming? I might take a crack at applying after all. It's a bit less intensive than drawing for me...

As long as the structure is mostly ifs ands, fors, and buts I can handle it fine. ;)

Then again, I'd probably only be useful as an Interface programmer as I'm not familiar with Torque and have never used Maya. o_O

No ands or buts! ;-D

Seriously though, you need to be familiar with object-oriented programming, C++ and Torque Script.

I'm great with object orientation and C++, but I have no money to get Torque with... I have worked with game engines before though.

The Torque demo is borked on Win98 though last I tried to install (but it turned out that it didn't download proper), hopefully the full version works fine in it otherwise I can only program on my winxp comp when I'm at home. I'll try out the demo on winxp and see how it works.

Torque script is very similar to C++ in it's structure. Except it's actually easier to code it, modulo the difficulty to debug stuff that doesn't work. ::)

If you have ever worked in a C-like language and are comfortable switching from one language to another, you shouldn't really have any problems. The stuff we do isn't very advanced anyway most of the time. Remember, we have a very capable game engine already in place, so it's mostly a matter of using its capabilities, not inventing new ones.

Oldbushie

Alright, I'll apply then, like I said I have tons of experience with C++. :)

If only my HTML skills could be of any use. Sadly, even the website is too complicated for me. :'( I wish there was a way I could help with the project. Can there be a position for official cheerleader? :P
