I need some help getting video off of a DVD onto the computer and then onto Youtube... Unless it's illegal... Anyone know how to do that?

I need help getting the video off the DVD. The youtube uploading shouldn't be too much of a problem... I get the feeling their videos came from a DVR... Darn, I wish I had one!

What I meant is that it's better you check with Youtube to see if it's legal or not.  Certain sites have strict rules about things you're permitted to post.  So, rather than wasting time getting the video, first find out if it's allowed. :)

The youtube is bringing up lots of copyright issues and stuff so it will be interesting to see how the industry responds.

Well, Youtube isn't the only one that does streaming videos these days.  I think the law will be as relaxed with them as they are with streaming music.  It's obvious that the uploader owns an original, and anyone that replicates the video source isn't exactly infringing.  And of course, the infringement is only 30 seconds or less... so really it's not worthy the industry chasing down every single person that streams a video. :P

I've noticed with MySpace that a lot of artists stream their own music and videos, so rather than fighting it, they're finally enjoying it too. XD

Well, I read recently that MySpace is targetted by people looking for information on how to access computers. :-<
In addition, according to an eweek article, the hacker industry is becoming less.  Unfortunately, organized crime has more than taken up the slack and that just about sucks for everyone. <Grrr>

I don't quite see the connection between MySpace and computer hacking.  ??? MySpace is basically just a social network where people have an online profile & journal.  The information you post is pretty much up to the user's discretion.

Erm, sadly I believe what Dew says is true. Myspace was recently bought by one of the biggest marketing company in the US, therefore they use Myspace as a giant database to search and pretty much pick info. Although I am not so sure how this would lead to hacking, it wouldn't surprise me much either. It caused a controversy because they allowed underaged to register not long ago, therefore that is why those who are under 18 years old have their profiles automatically set to private or such, I recall.

Nedless to say Myspace is just no longer the friendly networking place but instead one of the most powerful marketing techniques at our current time. Clearly seen everywhere, it is like it became the new contact as it is: phone number, email, url and myspace address.

Nice move for Tom and his fellow friend, but still, it does not surprise me one bit what Dew just commented. The more important Myspace would get, the more users, the easier to get to more ppl :-\

You are correct, Say.  I have a subscription to the Wall Street Journal and they just report it as they see it.  I have found the paper to be trustworthy and rarely wrong.  Unfortunately, privacy is becomming a bigger deal -- I had my social security card stolen === about 1.5 years ago === home break-in --- only I was targetted in Arizona --- #1 in identity theft === my computer attempted acces == worked as vounteer for Microsoft and U.S. Justice Department --- had XP SP2 hacked --- should have said originally that it was a test but did not -- baited hackers to do this -- showing Windows Firewall and wired LinkSys router not really secure --- and that as well as dealing with cancer ==== last chemotherapy treatment was July 3, 1992 == a date that means a lot to me of course, === now going on 15 years cancer free === it was Hodgkin's Disease === learning disability === much better === strong godly parents and good schools, vision issues --- corrected through eye execercises ===== word to get married soon ===== so many changes and challenges ===== everyone can help me by praying ==== I need the protection of a higher power ==== Neil email me and anyone else who desires to ====== Farewell for now and sorry about religion but my Faith in God is all I have left ==== sometimes I feel 10 and other times 77+   (still a young adult)

everyone no need to feel sorry and just pray for me if you care and respect me with your honesty and responsibility then I will be better in the future --- I hope and God Willing --- :-<

Hey Dew,

You've got mail and a PM. :)  Just try to take it easy.

To get back on topic, I wouldn't say that MySpace is unique in storing personal info.  Any ISP will have all your personal contact information as well.  That's basically why no one is anonymous over the Internet, and why anything you post is stored and logged on a server somewhere (i.e. web server, database, mail server, chat server, etc.).

As for what a hacker can do with this info, not much really.  I mean, identity theft is pretty lame because your bank and credit card knows what kinds of purchases you make regularly.  Any odd purchases will stick out like a sore thumb. :P  However, it's still a problem because it's still someone is using your info for malicious purposes.  I'm still not sure how the law works on that, but usually banks and credit card companies keep a close watch for people making extremely odd purchases.

Hackers are mostly just people with nothing better to do.  Firewalls work well as a great defense, which is why they're now just as crucial as an anti-virus scanner.  The offense is in how well the firewall logs attacks, port numbers and IP addresses.  Once you have the attacker's IP, just resolve the domain and report it to the abuse@ account at the attacker's ISP.  Hacking is illegal and like I said in the first paragraph, their ISP will always have the attacker's personal info.

As far as computer security goes, we can all make our systems secure, but they'll never be 100% because technology constantly evolves.  So, the solution won't be a technology-based one, it's one that involves the person behind the technology.  In other words, in the event of an attack, simply report the attacker so that they'll never hack you or anyone else again.

One last thing I wanted to say.  There are several levels of security we all have.  Computer security is something we can do personally, but there are also laws that define hacking as illegal, then there are are businesses that have policies that counter them as well, and lastly the hackers each have a conscience.  They usually attack for a reason, so once they're caught, they'll have no choice but to pay the price for the rest of their lives.
