No idea. I don't suppose anyone here has Trillian, an MSN account, and IE5.01+ to test?

Heck, I can't even make a connection to the ICQ-network, let alone try to create an MSN-identity. :-\ It keeps connecting and disconnecting using my UIN and password. My contacts were imported OK though. It's not as if I'm using the wrong password, I know, 'cos I've checked.

Okay, 't was the proxy-setting that caused the problem with ICQ, but indeed, I'm having the same problem trying to log in/on to MSN. And nowhere did I read me having to install IE5.01.

Yonkey, system requirements for MSN Messenger do not apply to Trillian, I'm pretty sure. I'd like to know the meaning of this elusive number '12037'.

Well, I found this:

http://www.trillian.cc/forums/showthread.php?s=29c03c9e985304adf69149a47c22ff04&threadid=45724

Which pretty much says to make sure your date is set properly.   :o ::)

* copycat thinks you have to be registered to access a thread at the Trillian-forums because he's getting a 'Forbidden'-page.

EDIT: And oh, my date is set quite right, thanks to a little program called Abouttime. 8)

Hmm. That's odd, CC, I can access the Trillian forums to read them just fine. Not that it's been very helpful.

And yes, I agree, that date advice is pretty much useless. You can't alter the BIOS in a Compaq, and I certainly did not do so in the space between when Trillian was working, and when it stopped working. And I, too, have a program that keeps one's system clock synchronized to an official time and date server.

Hmm, I turn off my cable proxy-setting for HTTP and hey presto, there's the forum! How can using a proxy cause forbidden-pages ???

EDIT: They also say it could be due to proxies, but I thought I turned that off. And, isn't the BIOS clock read by Windows? So, if Windows displays the correct time, your BIOS is OK.

It depends. If it's your own proxy, I don't know. If it's an external proxy provided by your cable company, they could have a set up to block certain web servers. I've heard stranger. Your proxy could also be set up incorrectly. Unfortunately my knowledge on the matter is somewhat limited.

In my case, I don't use a proxy, so that's not it. I do use the ZoneAlarm firewall, but I always had it on when Trillian was working before, and turning it off now doesn't have an effect. I'm still tempted to think it has something to do with IE5.01... uninstalling that was, as near as I recall, the only major difference I made to my computer between MSN with Trillian working, and then suddenly not working. So I still stand by my conclusion that MSN sucks. (Not to mention the fact that MSN doesn't have an official web-based version of Messenger. AIM has an official web-based version of their service, and I believe Yahoo! and ICQ do as well.)

And I stand by my conclusion that m$ sucks.
Besides, M$ site says error 12037 has something to do with SSL date validation stuff, I know SSL stands for Secure Socket Layer but what that has to do with a date...
But, like I said, I removed that (cable-)proxy from Trillian because it was also blocking ICQ. My proxy? I've got NAT, and AFAIK the clock on my ICS-server is also quite correct. Besides, why is it so important for m$n messenger to have an SSL-date?
No, ZoneAlarm can't be a problem, I've got that too, and it isn't blocking anything or it would say so.
Maybe IE5.01 provides an SSL date for m$n messenger to work with? Just a thought.

Maybe, but that doesn't make any sense to me, either. Why does MSN require an SSL date from IE5.01, when other IMs like AIM and whatnot don't need that? I smell something fishy.

M$ always has fishy tricks up its sleeve. That's why it sucks.

That still won't solve our current problem though. I hava a .net passport (with absolutely no personal information whatsoever, and, more importantly, no hotmail-account), but when I click (in Trillian) on the 'create a new MSN Messenger account (Passport)', Opera starts, asks me to provide my username and password, I do so, and then I get an error 500. Any ideas about the probable cause of that error?

Why are you creating a new Passport if you already have one?  Can't you just put your username and password in Trillian's MSN settings and log in?
"A wish changes nothing. A decision changes everything."

Jeysie

Heh. That threw me off at first too... I thought it meant creating a new MSN account for Trillian, not a new MSN account for MSN, if that makes sense.

At any rate, you just have to fill in the account, password, and display name options on the left side, CC.

I don't know what clicking on that option in Trillian does, but since I have to insert a username and password I presumed it was to make an MSN account based on that .net passport. And when I enter the settings from that passport into Trillian, I get that error 12037.

EDIT: Just found a patch to fix problems with MSN protocol. Will try that tomorrow. Now it's time for me to go and floss and brush my teeth. 'Night everyone!

Nope, patching it did not solve the 12037-problem. :'(

There's a few others you can try if Trillian isn't letting you in.  They use the Jabber protocol which basically does the same that Trillian does: merge AIM, ICQ, Yahoo, MSN.  I haven't tested any of these myself:

http://www.jabber.org/user/clientlist.php

There's also Easy Message Express that may do the same thing: http://www.easymessage.net

I can do AIM, no problem: Cat13111973 at your service and connected at this moment. I still have Yahoo left and IRC (but I don't know how I should configure that last one). Bushie is added, what's your AIM-nick Jeysie?
