Hey Peasant Girl!

Welcome back!  We were wondering what happened to ya.   ;D  Yep, the game is moving at a very steady pace these days.  It's really exciting, even for us on the team!  :D  Thanks for taking some time to talk to us again.  We missed ya and hope you come back soon.   :)

What progress sounds right.  What Progress?  Sounds to me this project has been stuck in neutral for over 4 years now.  I hope it gets something out, but i am, as always, doubtful.

Jeysie

* Jeysie pulls out her notebook and puts on some cheesy thick 70's-style space-secretary glasses.

Tell me, Beernuts, what is your motivation with these posts?

Attempting to motivate the team? None necessary. They know that at this point, if they don't complete the game, a good chunk of the adventure game community will lynch them. If they wait until after they've held voice auditions and recordings to cancel the game, we'll lynch and torment them, preferable involving a large-scale tickling-with-feathers scheme.

Seriously, what I've heard and seen of what they've released excites me, and I'm not even on the team. I can't speak for everyone, but I know that when I'm working on a project, and it starts getting far enough along to be awesome-looking, I absolutely can't wait to get it finished and show everyone. I would think these guys would have the same drive. So if they can't finish it they may lynch themselves.

Finally, Mike just had to buy a whole ton of equipment for the auditions. If he doesn't get to use it... well, I know *I* would get cranky.

Pissing people off? I prefer to see the good in people whenever possible, so I certainly hope this isn't the reason.

Just expressing your feelings? Yes, there's free speech on the Net, and you're entitled to express your opinion. But you have to know when it's not a good idea to say what you're thinking.

I mean, heck, I'm a horrible pessimist, much to my roommate's perpetual dismay. I not only am convinced something will go wrong, I'm usually convinced everything will go wrong, and in the worst possible way. So if I see ways something might go wrong, and I think they are solvable or preventable, I will point them out (much to everyone else's perpetual dismay).

But there comes situations where even if something does go wrong, there's not much you can do about it. I'm not on the team, I don't have any game-creating skills. So if something goes wrong and they absolutely can't finish it, no amount of pissing, moaning, whining, or griping on my part is going to help. So I have three main choices.

One, not get involved with the game at all, and invest no emotions in the matter at all until it does or doesn't come out.

Two, keep track of the progress of the game, and engage in conversations with forum members on the assumption the game will come out. If it does, life is peachy. If it doesn't, life sucks, but at least I'll have gotten to spend all this time having fun and meeting some cool new online pals.

Three, express pessimistic concerns about whether or not the game will come out, despite the fact that they not only have no practical purpose or usefulness, but will make everyone either depressed or angry, depending on their disposition.

In short, express opinions that will cause negative emotions only if it will cause practical gain... otherwise let everyone have their fun. From one miserable pessimist to another. ;)

I understand your frustration.  This game has been in development for quite some time.  But much progress has been made.  See my post under "Only want to ask....".

We are working hard on getting this game out, it will not be vaporware. :D

Just read his last Back to earth time thread.

Heh. I was trying to forestall another big hoo-rah-rah like that one. Besides, I am always curious why people do what they do. And maybe he won't feel so put-upon if it's another pessimist doing the commenting. ;)

Not to mention that... *commercial companies* can take 4 or more years to release games... I don't see why a lengthy amount of time is unreasonable for a venture where nobody's getting paid and everyone can only work on it in free time between work and/or school.

Peace & Luv, Liz

Storm

Not to mention that *commercial companies* can also cancel or postpone game releases, though usually not as often as fan games makers do  ;)

Why motivation for my posts?  Same as yours for all your posts.  To discuss KQ9 in some way.  My discussions are alot of the time on why I feel the progress is nto significant, and why I have powerful feelings the game will never get done.  There's no real pratical reason for posting anything on these "discussion" boards, outside of the team members.

I usually stop by here every once in a  while to check on KQ9, and sometimes I'll make a post.  If kq9 gets to the point where all the voice acting is complete, then I'll feel better about it, but till then, I'm as pessimistic as always.  GoodLuck.

Jeysie

I'll agree that a lot of the stuff we post here doesn't have much practical purpose, but it's fun, and keeps us entertained. Whereas posting pessimistic opinions that serve no practical purpose just make everyone miserable. So why do it? Like I said, if you're gonna bring people down, do it only when you have a reason. (shrug)

Quote from: beernutts on November 19, 2003, 03:08:38 PMMy discussions are alot of the time on why I feel the progress is not significant, and why I have powerful feelings the game will never get done.

But... why have those discussions? A discussion in a forum should be entertaining, useful, or both. The sort of discussions you're trying to start are none of those things. What are you expecting from them?

Peace & Luv, Liz

Peasant_Girl

Yeh, thats the whole point. It IS a fan project after all. I mean what DO you expect from people who aren't being professionally paid? They sure have done a lot considering all this! 8)

Great to see ya again SAY! Missed YOu a lot....and old bushie...and Ceasar....and...everyone else!

It's true, it's a downer when someone posts negative, pessimistic comments.  But at the same time, nutts is showing how he cares about the game in his own way.  If he didn't feel passionate about it, he wouldn't pop up every now and again, would he?  He's excited about the game but frustrated that it's not completed.  You think he's still going to be pessimistic when he download's the completed game?  I think not.  I think he'll be just as excited as everyone else - even more so, because he seems to keep psyching himself out that this game will never be completed.

Oh gee, my favorite nay-sayer is back....  ::)

He can feel how he likes, but it's annoying and pestering as all hell to have someone reply to posts where we DO say hey, we've done a lot, this is what we've done, etc, and have him more or less sh!t on us saying we ARE doing stuff by saying, yeah, well, whatever, this won't ever happen, etc, I don't really care what you say and I don't believe you.

Stop asking if it doesn't matter what the answer is, we're all well aware of your opinion by now.

Well, most people wouldn't bother to complain. If they've already decided this project is doomed to failure they wouldn't believe anything written here anyway, and probably wouldn't even bother posting.

That guy just likes to get a rise out of people - by now, he should already know his remarks upset some posters and offend some team members, yet he carries on with them  ::)
Also, he didn't settle for his first recent post, but came here to rain on other people's compliments as well. Not very civil IMO  :P

Unforutnately, I'm a person that kind of thing often works on... ::sigh::

I can't stand people purposefully being and acting like little s**** like this guy. F*** off man. And in that first post, he's all pessimistic, but then goes on to say, oh but I won't help even though I doubt all of YOUR abilities to do this. Then shut the f*** up! Don't trash it and say crap like that! UGH. We hates him!! HATES HIM!
