I still never played Leisure Suit Larry, but I'm surprised that they're still bringing out such games of this genre.  Was Magna Cum Laude a point and click?  Were the originals even point and click?  I don't know!

Interesting that the trailer is being released at the same time as Night of the Raving Dead.

This game looks like it stars MCM's Larry, but does include Larry Laffer.

It's said to be a pure adventure game, both by Sierra and in a interview by the developers. This is Sierra's first adventure game since 1999. Please buy it. It'll convince them to make more adventure games.

MusicallyInspired

You mean Vivendi, as Sierra doesn't physically exist as anything but a brand name logo anymore.

TheReturnofDMD

Actually Sierra does exist: It was brought back through 2006 and 2007; It has a president, Martin Tremblay, it has a whole staff and team of developers and administration. It owns four studios: Massive Entertainment, High Moon Studios, Radical Entertainment, Swordfish Studios.

That's just some articles. It would be wise for fans to purchase this new LSL game. It'll show Sierra that the adventure genre is still profitable and will make them more interested in producing more adventure games. If these games sell well, other companies would probably consider reinvesting in the adventure genre. But if you guys just want the adventure genre to stay unknown and unprofitable, and for Sierra to be gone for good, be my guest.

I suspect the humor could be better, Allen Covert is very funny in my opinion...BUT, it could just be a mini game laden mess like MCL....

"Leisure Suit Larry Box Office Bust is a rollicking, innuendo-laden lampoon of Hollywood that features open world sand box game play that includes exploration, platforming, racing and puzzle-solving to complete missions. Additionally, the game will feature an all-new Directors Game that allows the player to create their very own 'Larry Feature.' "

"Platforming" and "racing" sound like mini games to me. And alot of companies for the last ten years or so have called "puzzle solving" the type of things you do in Spyro the Dragon or Crash Bandicoot 3D platform games. Not so much puzzle solving as jumping on things and crystal collecting and the like. I won't believe this is a pure adventure game until I see some more detailed descriptions of the game and screenshots. Sorry to sound pessimistic, but MCM makes me that way.

Seeing as how I'm not even old enough to play LSL, there's a slim chance I'll even be buying this game. I do wish it well though. If it succeeds, then it will show Vivendi that the Adventure Genre has potential once more. I just hope that if this succeeds they move forward with a new KQ or SQ. And it better not be the scrapped KQ9 they were working on. Those leaked screenshots are god awful looking. King Graham and Chibi just don't match...

It probably won't. Al Lowe isn't aboard and if he is not aboard, then the game will suck at best. Al Lowe = Larry Laffer, 'nuff said . . .

I will only buy it if it proves to be a good game, otherwise it's not worth it . . .
It seems totally incredible to me now that everyone spent that evening as though it were just like any other. From the railway station came the sound of shunting trains, ringing and rumbling, softened almost into melody by the distance ...

Well, I hope it does well. I have some ideas to help reinvigorate the adventure genre, but I'd rather not post them, in case anyone tries to steal my ideas. I'll just say that they're new ways to interact with characters. I would hope that this new LSL brings something not seen in an adventure game. That, to me, is the way to bring it back. Put in some kind of innovative new feature not seen in an adventure game before. An open sand-box mode has me interested, and I'll be keeping an eye on that feature. Also, according to GameSpot the game will be called Box Office Bust, and Larry Laffer WILL appear, but not as the main playable character. He'll apparently be working at the ticket booth. At least, that's what my memory is telling me. If I have the information wrong, please feel free to correct me.

What you're saying here is a logical fallacy called Appeal to Fear. You're basically threatening us that if we don't buy this game, it will be our fault that the adventure genre died out ::)

This claim in itself is erronous since:
A. Even if every single person who reads this thread buys a copy of the new LSL, it still wouldn't make a dent in the game's sales curve, and thus have no effect on Sierra/Vivendi's decision to make more games.
B. Even if, by some miracle, the new LSL game sells better than all GTAs put together, it still doesn't mean gaming companies would start investing in adventure games, since this game won't be an adventure. As PirateKingChris points out, the term 'adventure' is used very loosely by game developers nowadays, and it might as well turn out to be another MCL.
C. Even if, by an even bigger miracle, the new LSL game turns out to be a pure adventure AND becomes a huge hit, this still doesn't mean game developers would start making adventure games like it's going out of style. There had been successful adventure games in the recent past, and none of them made the adventure genre rise from its ashes.

And on the same subject, anyone wonder why, of all Sierra's classic games, it's the LSL series that's getting another installment? In terms of fan community, it seems that LSL has little to no following compared to Space Quest, King's Quest and Quest for Glory. The logical conclusion is that the entire classic Sierra games fan community makes an absolute zilch of difference when it comes to Sierra/Vivendi's business decisions :(

The current trend is FPS's. Developers are more interested in FPS than anyother genre, really. As for LSL being the only classic Sierra series to be getting new additions, that's because sex sells...

Yep, I agree.  Although I think eventually it'll shift from FPS to something else once that generation grows old.  If you're in your 50's and still obsessed with saving the country or world from aliens... there's something seriously wrong with you. ;P

I only really like a handful of FPS games, and most of those are Dark Forces/Jedi Knight games :P.....There really ought to be a shift towards something else by now.

I think it's starting to.  A lot of people at my work really enjoy Guitar Hero and Rock Band. :james: Plus the versatility of the Wii introduces kids to games far more intense than the usual button-mashing-shoot-em-up games.

Guitar Hero and Rock Band although probably fun, the FPS players aren't moving to them. I know I haven't touched it, doesn't interest me, so if they move from FPS, I'm hoping for something a little more interesting. :P

Video game trends change each generation. In 20 years or less I speculate that FPS' will go out of style. I've never been a fan of FPS' with the exception of Perfect Dark and Goldeneye, but I just could never get into an FPS. My friend on the otherhand, his life revolves around FPS'. He respects my interest in adventure games (to a degree) and I respect his interest in FPS'. Adventure games had their time in the spotlight, and so did FPS'. But it's a cycle as I see it. Once every genre has been exhausted, the cycle will begin anew. At least that's my philosophy. I do want adventure games to return though. And it's sadly true that sex sells. I wish it weren't the case, but consumers act in strange ways... They should give KQ, SQ, and QFG a chance before tossing them to the side deciding there's no hope to them. Bring Roberta and Ken on for a new KQ (not that it's really possible to happen, but a teenager can dream...) and you'll have an instant bestseller. They'll come up with something I bet...
