Any original fan-games?

Hey there

Just a rant. As much as I love fan remakes of the original KQ games, I honestly believe that a KQ fan game with an original story would be awesome. I know there's TSL, but I mean for example a VGA game which takes place between KQ2 and KQ3, focusing on Graham's adventures during that time period or a game which takes place before in the era before KQ1, say showing the youth of King Edward (or even going back to the beginning of Daventry or the land of the Green Isles) or Graham's adventures as a knight. Those are two KQ time periods in which many original, intriquing games could be based.
It could even be based in another country in the world of Daventry with Daventry's royal family only making cameo appearences. To me, playing a wholly new venture which takes place in the world of KQ would be much more interesting and fun to play than another remake. It would also be a good way to keep the community going. I'm sure there's a lot of creative minds out there who could make some really good original VGA or SCI KQ's.

I believe a few projects are planned which take place during Graham's youth as he becomes a squire and then later a knight. I shall have to look for the site and I doubt it's been more than planned.

You are correct. The name of the "group" (ie. one person) is Intermezzo Software, but they have only released Kings Quest 2¼: Breast Intentions so far. I think the website has been all but abandoned now.

Indeed? I didn't remember the company. :-\ Admittedly, I remember little of the PM conversation I had with the party a while ago (probably close to two years ago), but I was impressed with the idea to make a game where Graham was featured as a squire.

I once visited Intermezzo softwaree's site, but I had never played any of the game's they made. And I agree with DMD that it'd be really cool to see adventures in different time periods of the KQ universe. I'd love to see a game taking place on The Land of The Green Isles long before KQVI (perhaps a game taking place during KQI or even during the 20 year gap?) I'd love to explore the history of the Green Isles!

Seeing games based off the books would be interesting *imagines playing Graham as that lizard thing*

Bludshot

I think a VGA MOE would be cool to.  I would love to play Connor in a pure adventure game.  Obviously all but the basic plot would be revamped.

I would prefer a VGA MoE to be QFG-style.

Dangling

That would be a good idea (the pre-KQ1 fan game).  KQ1 starts out in a world where they used to own 3 magical treasures.  Were the treasures just always sitting in Daventry or did Edward or a predecessor have to do something to obtain them?

Is there a Game called Conquest of Camelot VGA in the makings.

PirateKingChris

I haven't heard of that being made.

I'd like to see someone take the idea of the extra icons you have in Conquests of the Longbow and make something like that.

You know what would be great? A game that takes place in the Harry Potter magical world, done in VGA, that doesn't take place when Harry is a boy....Maybe have it take place 100 years ago or something. Now if only I could program games :P

That could be interesting, if made as mix of adventure/rpg. Imagine raising Connor's honour on his road to be the heir to the throne. I think I would like that.

it would be nice if it ea made like a Tale of two kingdoms where through your actions you raise the character's wisdom and honour (or lose it if you do something else) I love ATOK- there are 5 different endings and there is a lot to do, the graphics are very nice too. I

Yeah, ATOTK looks like a great game, but for some reason it didn't get much attention around here. Fan remakes/sequels of popular series seem to get more hype than new original games, probably because they already have a fan base interested in anything related to them :-\

This isn't a fan game nor is it related to King's Quest, but the Game Giveaway site is giving a FREE advneture game today - something called Ghost in the Sheet.
I played through a couple of screens at work today (my boss was out :P), and it looks just as silly as its title suggests ::) but if you enjoy this kind of thing, you can download it for FREE in the next 11 hours and save $7! :D (Hey, there's a recession out there. Every cent counts).

Anyways, here's the link:

LOL!  A vga moe would be good, mine will be VGA.  Wow, a KQ8 remake seems to have been considered many times before me.

It should, though, i played through it twice so far and will return to it again. it;s a very well-made game. There are nice side effects and the game may surprise you at one point or another. It's well-written and it;s done in the classic style. If it came out with kg and qfg it would be, in my oinion, rembered with just as much nostalgia.

It's to be found here: http://www.crystalshard.net/

Now, Storm, THIS I have not expected. A freebie like this even if it is silly may be worth a try. We gotta be open-minded.  The things game developers come up with tese days are pretty weird sometimes and playing as a ghost, compared to oter ideas, is not as wierd. In fact it seems like anj interesting twist to the traditional games of this genre.
A free point and click/rpg style paranormal story is a rather explosive mix but freebies like this don't grow on trees, either. I'll post my thoughts once I play it.

Thanks for sharing the link, Storm! This is site looks like worth bookamrking and visiting every now and then -perchance there will be other interesting offers.

Thanks a big time.  !!!

Atec, methinks many disappointed fans have been hoping for this. it really does say a lot about that particular game.

Well I tried that particular game. It's seemed pretty ok although i don't think it stands out from some mystery-almost thriller stories. You play as a ghost- which is interesting and that ghost aquire skills which help it interact with the world. The cut scenes are done in an interesting way-reminded me of some black noir comics: hand drawn, black and white. The perspective is first person and there are a lot of rather straightfrward puzzles.

However, the atmosphere is rather dreary-an old abandoned factory rendered in 3d graphics you may well imagine what it looks like. There is little variance in rooms, it all seems to take plae in some old factory premises.  Black humour. Sounds are somewhat unnerving sometimes. Storyline i thought was not really innovative.

The concept is ok, especially for a new company as i hear they are, but i'm not at all hot for dreary mystery/thrillers, even if they contain a ghost rpg skill system.  Nothing that would wow me but it was worth a try, especially since it;s for free. I've deleted it already because i have no intentions of finishing it and i don't think i'm missing anyting.

As for missing the freebie Shades, I think they sometimes offer reruns of some giveaways. Perhaps  they will offer it again. I've bookamrked the site to return there, perhaps there will be other, better offerings.

Thanks. You're right it doesn't sound overly great but an interesting idea just the same.

I'll try to remember to keep an eye on that site too.
