OK.... OWW?? Was that really necessary?  :'(

A gentleman wouldn't think along those lines in the first place

I think a gentleman is not only one who wouldn't say/type such things in public, but also one who tries his hardest to change his way of thinking, even if it is difficult. And when he does, inevitably, mess up, he feels guilty about it.

It's all in the attitude.

That's this man's opinion, anyway.  8)

Was that a snow boot or one of those stylish boots with stiletto-like heels?

Hey, I'd definitely rather have a gentleman. Someone who doesn't play games...or makes crude jokes. Definitely like getting the door held open for me :P

I pull out chairs for girls, do the ladies first thing etc. all that gentleman stuff, but I am crude. However, I don't play games in the sense you are referring to, unless you mean videogames. :P

Seriously though, in front of a girl I'm trying to impress, I'll be on my best behaviour, no swearing or crudeness. Of course, being crude is a part of me, but something I usually do around mates not girls. I generally wouldn't subject a girl to that.

but while trying you can still fail... so you won't always know who the true gentlemen are, eh?

If a gal expects perfection, they will be disappointed.

I'm scared to say this, but I actually respect that position. Are you really a gentleman in wolfs clothing, Racx?  :P

Most girls under 20 prefer idiots and/or jerks (or those who act like one), in my experience.
Sometime between 20-25, THEN they want marriage material.
Again, in my experience.

*sigh* ... /agree

Then again, I suppose the opposite is true. Guys often only see the physical.

You all are quite right. Young men do go for older women, but in my past experience tells me not to date those guys because, no offense to anyone, they are immature in many ways. But as for me I do prefer a gentelman, but not one who would act differently to impress me. I would want him to act like he normally did. Even if he was not perfect, nobody is. :P

It was just a general comment, and those experiences are based in High School at the University level it is much different. Strange how a school change can change a person.  ;)

What are you people referring to as a "gentleman" anyways? So far, you seem to all be talking manners + a (somewhat) clean mind.

It's an abstract. Same case where the definition of "good person" typically is undefinable.

Personally, I think manners play no role in it, whatsoever. Now that I think about it, someone who tries to be selfless / self-sacrificing might fit the definition of "gentleman" better. Someone who is thinking of the other person, more than themself, is probably going to understand what would make the gal uncomfortable, and what wouldn't, and be polite, accordingly.

Whether a person knows which fork is used for salad, and which is for the main dish, is irrelevant. Additionally, some girls *hate* the 'door' opening thing. In that case, a gentleman wouldn't hold the door.

That's my 3 cents, anyway.

And then when they get older they go for younger go figure?  ???

Of course acting normal (i.e. kooky) all depends on the occasion. Like when you see their parents for the first time that's usually not a good time.  XD
