I heard that there was some sort of gathering taking place here? I hope I have made it on time to join in.

Okay. Elessar, you are simultaneously strangled and burned at the stake.

Townspeople, you have won! Elessar was the mafia!
But... ??? ... he got shot in the arm or some such at the funeral! ...What a terrible shot! ;)

Actually, I wasn't shot. :sneaky: Go back to the day of the funeral...

Funeral Time!
The rest of the townspeople shuffle into a small room and Delling (being Duke of Saxony) provides the eulogy, and then Elessar (being Count of Cumberland) speaks some words too. As the crowd is shuffling out of the room four gunshots are heard. At the first gunshot mass pandemonium ensues and after the crowd calms down, Elessar is found lying on the ground blood pooling around his arm and Delling with two shots to the head and one to the chest lies dead. In the aforementioned mad dash, Tessy says that she saw Cat drop a pocketknife from the pocket of a jacket that she found in the trash, and, deeming it "almost like new" started wearing it.

You certainly have, Count Elessar of Cumberland.

It seems we have most everyone we expect to come, but the doors will remain open until noon. Just two more hours now.

The house is now closed. Even if anyone should come to the door, I cannot open it. I must now ask that everyone present adjourn to his chosen bedchamber within the house; then I shall reveal to you why we are all here.

Now, go to your rooms retire to your chambers at once.

*Later tonight a note in an envelope is slipped under each of your doors. After collecting the notes with your own personal flair, you can quickly discern why you're all here without being told: someone is a murderer and Delling knows who it is.*

*House servants come around to collect everyone for dinner. In the dining room, you meet up with the other house guests and your host again, your long-winded host.*

I trust everyone has had a good evening so far and put their affairs in order... in your rooms, I mean..., and I trust some of you have already managed to put together my little game. One of you is a murderer. To the murderer, it will suffice it to say that I witnessed one of your previous murders and went unnoticed. I propose a game of cat-and-mouse: each night at dinner, we will all vote on whom we believe the murderer to be. That person will then be eliminated. I will of course remain impartial and silent for the voting as I hold certain special knowledge: the true identity of the murderer. Each night the murderer will be free to kill one person. If the murderer survives the dinnertime eliminations and manages to kill all of the house guests, then he may kill me and leave the house untrammeled. Meanwhile, the dinnertime eliminations will act to test the perceptions (in matters of justice) of these friends and heads of state gathered here.

Likes the premise. I suppose that if the murderer doesn't want to kill anymore, you will reveal the truth to the world?

Now, would be the time to guess and accuse, my friends, as tomorrow one of you will be dead! :dead: ...and that's a shame so we really must get on with things.

(Sir Delling is a bit more eccentric even than I... I certainly wouldn't play convoluted games with justice when I knew that someone was a murderer ::) ...at least, not like this :sneaky:)

How is the murderer supposed to kill everyone if the party is whittled down to two people? Who would break the tie?

Day will inevitably become night... that last person just has that much better odds... after all, he'll know whom to expect!

Um, that didn't really answer my question. After all, the murderer gets to vote too, so it will be 1 on 1, thus a tie.

If what you're saying is that because there is a tie, no one gets lynched, then the person who is not the murder doesn't have better odds, he's dead! :o

His odds only improve in a meta-reality sense: ostensibly he'll know who's coming and can prepare a defense... in terms of actual gameplay however, when it's down to two people and one-on-one, the mafia has won and yes, the other person is dead. But, hey, so am I this time around. :P
