So Refreshing

Hey, I'm a newcomer to this forum and to this project in general, but I'd just like to say that TSL and fan re-makes of older Sierra adventure games have reinvigorated my interest in PC gaming.

Anyways, here's my backstory (for anyone who is interested):

My family bought an IBM PS/1 Consultant PC with Windows 3.1 quite a few years back.  It came with a couple of curious game titles that I immediately loaded onto the system and began playing.  I loaded a title called King's Quest VI, and once I started, I couldn't stop playing it.  I finished the game and was completely satisfied.  Then, I watched my brother play through the game and realized that you could follow multiple paths and that the ending could change based on your actions.  The whole experience seemed pretty novel to me at the time, and as simple as it was, I was completely immersed in the game.  Next, I popped in Lost in Time, and I was sucked in once again.  From that point on, I bought as many point-and-click adventure games (including all of the QFG and KQ titles) as I could, but over time, I noticed that the genre was slowly dying.

Eventually, I kind of gave up on point-and-click games until a pretty cool little title fell into my lap.  It was Zack and Wiki for the Nintendo Wii (which if you haven't played it is a very, very cool and smart point-and-click).  After beating Zack and Wiki, I got a bit nostalgic and played through KQ6 again.  Then I turned my attention to Quest for Glory and played through the VGA remake with a new character.  Finally, I stumbled upon a character building FAQ for the game that mentioned a team called AGDI that was creating a VGA version of QFG2.  As fate would have it, this was just a couple of days ago on the exact date that the QFG2 re-make was released.  I was elated to say the least.

Anyways, once I downloaded the updated version of QFG2, I perused AGDI's forums and realized that they had also produced re-makes of KQ1 and KQ2 and there were also references to a re-make of KQ3.  This all had me very interested and I decided to check out the Wiki page for King's Quest to see what else was up in the community.  I found a link to TSL and fully expected it to be a completely lame project that would likely never come to fruition (ala Hero6).  But to my astonishment, there was a demo available.  I downloaded it as quickly as possible and immediately played through it.  As brief as the experience was, I loved seeing the Isle of the Crown in 3D.  I wanted badly to enter the Pawn Shop, and I was left wondering where the heck Beauty's house went.  Overall, I was thoroughly impressed with the project, and I've come to realize that it's in capable hands.

I'm sorry if that was long winded, but I'm glad that I got it off of my chest.  It's good to see that there are people out there who appreciate the point-and-click genre (most people I talk to are like "point-and-what?") and who are producing quality point-and-click adventures.

Welcome to the forum! ;D

I'm glad you enjoyed the demo.  While you're not permitted to enter the Pawnshop or Bookshop there, you are in Chapter 2.  As for Beauty's house, it turns out it was deemed inhabitable by the Crown, due to rotting floors from lack of scrubbing.  It was demolished shortly thereafter and today one can only find lush vegetation growing in its place.

Heh.  Thanks for the info regarding the Pawnshop and Bookshop.  I wasn't really concerned about it or anything; it was just me wishing outloud that I could go in and see how nicely rendered they are.  I've been reading up on the project, and it seems that most of the issues that I noticed in the demo (i.e. fixed waypoints when walking and smaller than normal scene transition hotpoints) have been rectified.  I'd probably kill to play the Beta if given the opportunity, but I'm a patient person for the most part and can wait for as long as it takes.

Very cool stuff though.  Keep up the good work while I bide my time trying to get my old copy of Lost in Time to function properly through DosBox.

Chapter 1 is MUCH shorter than chapter 2. (I don't know about chapter 3.) Also, there's no comparison between the quality of the public demo and the current state of the game - it's pretty amazing! You won't be disappointed!

Hi there Eclipse. Yes, most games today have a direct interface, i can't say it's not of some convenience as it usually makes doing certain actions faster. I was replying A tale of two kigdoms lately and it really got me killed a couple of times due to my slow reflexes with the clicking. It can be frustrating sometimes. But still i love the point-and-click games. It might require some dusting but overall it's a fine genre. When I replayed KQ and QfG sometime after I gre up I wondered why the heck aren't there more games like that. I'm thinking of finally trying Siberia-as it is supposed to have an interesting storyline and i was delighted to discover cRystal Shard;s freeware A tale of two kingdoms some time ago.

Anyway, you;re absolutely right. If anyone can do this project it;s these guys.

yeah, this is awesome!  I was so shocked whe n I saw the screenshots omg!  (I found the project just before the demo came out) It's awesome!  I was thinking IF there was a KQ9, it'd be porrly made by some random group of fans or something, the 1st thing I saw when I was looking was That KQ9 was cancelled, so when I fount this site, before looking at the forum, I thought for SURE that you hadn't updated the site since 2005, I didn;t really catch that it became Tsl.  About the interface, all the KQ interfaces (not moe) ROCK!!  I don't care, it can be parser, point n' click, whatever, but it's AWESOME!
