sounds great.  The only problem is then spammers (like yourself) would have an easier time messing up forums. :P

I've now reported him as a spammer to his own ISP.  XD

Errrr, not to spoil your fun but you do know there isn't any point in talking to a bot right? :P

lol, I'm not really talking to it. :P  I'm just keeping the link to this thread alive so that his ISP's abuse department can investigate further.

I've pretty much blocked out all spam with some hacks and mods to my phpBB forum.  But I like talking to bots, it's just funny for some reason, caue you know they can't reply. :P

Yeah... Luckily, our forum doesn't get hit with spam as often as other sites, but that might change once the game is out. ::)

I know there's some really good spam prevention stuff.  I imaginge there's some for smf as well.  Like changing the url to the register page (They always go to site.com/forumlink/index.php?action=register or something like that)

We'll see.  The other thing I could do is add a simple skill-testing question to the registration page, which bots wouldn't know how to answer.  Like... "What colour is the feather in Graham's cap?" XD

Eh - I'd go with a randomly generated code that must be entered during the registration process.  The problem with a quiz question is it's the same answer time and again, which makes it easier for bots to bypass (requiring only a small change to the bot program script to account for the quiz question and the appropriate answer).

Of course, I'm pretty sure you were just joking about the question, so I'll stop the nerd-fest.  :)

There already is a randomly generated code and e-mail activation, which is most likely why we don't get as much spam. :P  But still, if this "MagicOPromotion" guy managed to get through using XRumer, it's only a matter of time before other spambots follow.

CAPATCHAs don't work as well anymore.  If you make them work, they are impossible for real people to read.  What you need it a way to actually trick them.  Make the link to registration different, and then make a quiz question.  You can probably make a php script for generating a random quiz question.  (KQ related)
