I don't live in any of those places, but we have cicadas here too... nothing that bad though, I've never even seen one, just heard the annoying noise :P

I've never seen or heard of them before until Eric told me about em.  Nasty. :X

But you really gotta hand it to those cicadas. Being buried in the ground for 17 years only to emerge and prance around for a couple of days before they kick the bucket? Not the best existance ever ;)

and you complain about that? :P

wtf, want to know what's scary? a freaking bat breaking into your house at night, now that's scary and something to complaint about (let me note that south american bats DO bite and "lick blood")  I must add to this thing that it scared the s*** out of me to the point that I broke up in tears and had to get a valium afterwards, Cesar makes fun of it cuz he hasnt been though something as freaky as that, knowing how wussy he is he may even run faster than what I did lol :P <3

No Cicades in my part of the world. And no blood licking bats either (except maybe cattle, but not human).
I still don't get why South American bats would fly into houses to bite humans and lick their blood, unless there's not enough blood to be 'gathered' from outside. :-X

I think I left the garden open till very very late obviously, it broke in, they come around out in the open after 6 pm, and I was freaked out to have a large thing flying all over the house obviously, remember I have 3 dogs and one bird, he wouldnt have bitten me but my pets ;(

they tend to attack animals the most, not that many ppl, anyhow, it was really a stressing experience.

The fact that their life cycle takes 17 years is interesting. You'd think that the survival rate would be zilch, but it turns out that very few, if any animals have life cycles that follow a pattern of prime numbers. So basically, the odds of a predator finding a cicada above ground (between two 17-year intervals) are actually quite low. Pretty fascinating, I think.

Probably about 10 years ago, I remember there were Cicadas everywhere where I lived in Australia. At the time, I couldn't figure out where they all went and why they dissapered, now I know!   :)

But that means they'll be back soon!!!!     :'(  :'(  :'(

nope, no cattle-biting-bats either, the vampire bats doesn't exist in europe (iirc) but then again not all bats in Europe bite and lick blood either.

Say, you do know that the pic that looked like the bat that was in your room, wasn't a vampire bat, do you? ...so there is a possibility that yuo had a non-biting-bat in your room ...even so, not an experience i'd like to have  :-\
