the problem with that is that they are not unforeseen... they are very much foreseen ;)

Cor Blimey you lot! Why do you have all the "meaty" discussions when I am not around to see them in action!

I would contribute but I admit I have nothing further to say as I am hardly "No1 adventure game fan in the whole wide world," and I would simply be repeating myself. Mind you one thing I do say to all those of you who are saying this game is taking WAY to long to complete; you have seen nothing!

Apart from the Falcon 4.0 fiasco, I have also been a follower of the West Brothers "Racing Legends," racing simulation project since Day 1 (all of several years ago.) Let me assure you, you will be lucky if you get ANY official updates at all (indeed, the last "proper," update is from September 2003!!) Its still supposed to be being created at the moment but the faint whiff of "vapour-ware," is now becoming a stench. I assure you, compared to that, this project is moving along at Warp 3000!  ;D
(Don't mean that as a mick-take KQIX team, your updates are often more regular/better than many "official" game websites  I have encountered in recent history!)
When cities burn and armies turn,
and flee in disarray,
Cowards will cry 'tis best to fly
and fight another day.
But warriors know it in their marrow when they die and fall,
It is better to have fought and lost than not have fought at all.

sivvrianBARRY

I love all the updates that happen. Of course, I'd like more, but then again so does everyone I'm sure and they're not essential for us to play the game, which is the ultimate goal.

My problem when it comes to updates is the lack of announcements when something doesn't happen that was previously said to happen. For example, there was supposed to be monthly updates when the new and improved version of this site launched, but since then only a handful of "big" updates have happened, and much less frequently than a month. My problem is not that these updates are not actually happening, but the fact that the KQIX team isn't really addressing that they said these would be monthly. All it would take is a quick mention on the front page or in the newsletter that the big updates are no longer monthly.

I am by no means at all knocking the product, the updates themselves, or the web team. I'm just saying that it would make a lot of people feel better about this issue if you would just post on the front page or in the newsletter or journal or something besides a thread on the forum if something changes from what it was originally announced.

Grundy

G'day all.

Long time, no see for most of you!

First of all, I would like to say that I have left the KQ9 team.  :'(
( Personal/Work reasons... )

I wouldn't have posted, but seeing how a lot of people are discussing Cesar's motives and actions towards fans and progress information... I had to come and post.

Having worked closely with Cesar and the bulk of the 3D team for about 6 months, I got to see the production of the game get into full swing. Even to the moments before leaving, I saw non-stop progress every DAY!

Now I know you'll argue this point, but by reading through the last few pages here, the general question/demand is that KQ9 gives you MORE updates, MORE specific numbers and MORE information about production status!

Damn guys!   :o

They already provide so much information and insight into this game! What more can you ask for?

e.g.... What you want...

"Today, Allert finished moving the vertices around on Graham's left hand so that the awesome texture would fit slightly better..."

( Boring tedious stuff )

The way it is done now is the best way to do it. If they provided every little update about tedious production work, you would get to the point of not even clicking on the 'Latest Updates!' link.    :P

The way they provide information now is perfect. Every few months, give a large update about the Production in general and let the fans know that X has been done Y is in production and Z is planned for next month.

If they gave it the way you are all demanding now, it would kill your interest and completely dull the final product!

Let me use an anology...

e.g.

- It's 4 weeks before Christmas and your parents have put the tree up!
- You start to get excited about what is coming and look at the tree as a symbol of something big/amazing/fun!

- 3 weeks from Christmas...
- There are a few presents with your name on them under the tree, waiting...   you don't know what they are, but you KNOW they are atleast THERE.

- 2 weeks from Christmas...
- You start to get to excited and the whole season has gone straight to your head! Now!, you start asking mum and dad if you can open a present or two this week!
- You open them and think, 'Wow, nice pressies!'

- 1.5 weeks from Christmas...
- You open a few more, and ask mummy/daddy if you can open one last pressie before you goto bed that night.
- 'WOW! nice pressies...'

- 1 Week away...
- You don't ask anymore and you sneak a few pressies at night while everyone else is sleeping and open them.
- Now you crave more!

- Christmas DAY!
- The whole family gathers, everyone is excited!
- The tree is lit and flashing and there a hundreds of pressies underneath for everyone!.....
- except you...

- "Oh, everyone is having a great time with one HUGE bang of excitement and pressies...."

- You have nothing left to open and you have to sit around, playing with you OLD toys while everyone else enjoys the fun.
:suffer:

So...   let it be, everyone, TRUST THEM!

All I can say is, WHEN it happens, you'll be grateful they kept it from you!   ;)
Take only what you're given and don't ask for seconds... please!
Because the feast you'll get when the time comes will fill you up for a VERY LONG TIME.

So, as an ex-team member,
ciao all, au revoire, bye-bye, that's me...  Jon...

Signing off....

*Stares at the very long posts*

It's amazing how so much could still be said about a topic that's been hashed out so many times before you could almost recite all the different arguments by heart ::)

Quote from: Yonkey on January 19, 2005, 05:55:04 PMThe majority of dew's comments in this thread aren't very supportive, and Vipt's rant is fully justified.

Sorry Yonkey, but I think Vipt's rant was totally uncalled for. Dew's post shouldn't have been taken more seriously than Jafar's "It will be released on April 32, 2003" or Bushie's "It will be released when there is ten feet of snow in Venezuela", and Vipt's lashing out like that over something that trivial kinda makes you wonder if he has it in for the guy :(
I think I've been here long enough to know what a nay-sayer looks like, and Dew definately doesn't fit that profile - he posts here way too much for that.

Anyways, this argument is a little redundant - the site is definitely updated enough to keep casual visitors from complaining about lack of updates/progress reports, and I don't see any of the regular forumers "losing faith" in the project due to a couple of weeks of delayed updates. What you have to remember here is that the bigger the anticipation, the bigger the impatience - people are so excited about the game, if it comes out tomorrow it wouldn't be soon enough for them, so complaints about progress/updates/release dates are only to be expected.
Developers and devoted fans get very touchy when people express the slightest sign of disbelief in their game's progress. I remember once saying that the Hero6 project is taking a long time compared to other fan projects (which is an objective truth, BTW) and nearly got my head chopped off by some of their team members ::)

As for those asking for bigger, better, faster, MORE!! updates, you just don't know how good you've all got it. Most other fan-game sites update very little if at all. As a matter of fact, this site itself hardly had any updates when I first got here.

P.S.
Sorry to hear about you leaving the team, Grundy :(
Hope you'll still grace us with your presence at the forum now and then ;)

I think my reply to liam got wiped out with the whole server maintenance.

The reason the updates are no longer be monthly is because of real life issues taking priority (i.e. work, school, etc.).  You can consider that the official statement because we've said it time and time again, and yet people still don't seem to understand it.

It wouldn't make a difference if we said "updates will be monthly" or "updates will be delayed until we are physically able to do them" because people would still be demanding us to tell them when they will be done - just like how they do now for the release date of the game.  Also, it wouldn't matter if we extended a deadline (i.e. Online Auditions) or closed one as stated on the page (i.e. Costume Contest), Liam would complain, regardless. :P

As Cesar, Say, Grundy and others who aren't even in the team have said already: we have given you a lot more than other fan-based projects out there, yet it still goes unappreciated and ignored by certain people.  But, I guess this is to be expected since you can never make everyone happy.

To the fans that are grateful, understanding and supportive, we greatly thank you for your patience. You will all get what you've been waiting for, in time.  8)

Yonkey: All true enough, but if you initially say that updates to a given thing will be on some regular basis, then for some reason they no longer are, then people are obviously going to be curious as to what happened. There's no reason to get so totally worked up about it.

There's also no reason to say people are always being "demanding", either. Some of the progress requests I've seen have simply been questions on the lateness of the regular updates. The only things those people are "demanding" are things that were already "promised", in a sense. If the things they were asking about hadn't already been mentioned as coming, they wouldn't be asking about them. :P I guess you guys got a little *too* good at the whole hype thing. XD

Now if you had never set any regular schedule for updates, and people still got pushy, then I could understand getting so riled up and cranky.

Peace & Luv, Liz

It's understandable for people to be curious when they don't know what is going on.  When it's the same person asking again and again, after the issue has been addressed by several people already, it goes beyond curiosity.  ::)

True, not everyone is demanding.  However, it's one thing to ask "When?" and another to say: "Hmmm another 6 months have gone by and still no update?  Is the project dead?".  We're not financially obligated to meet deadlines or to even answer questions like this, but we have and still they come back to ask again.

I wouldn't say we're breaking promises of updates either because we still have continued with weekly updates.  The Freak! polls, Weekly Polls, AOTW and Chamber sessions continued every week.  The AOTW stopped in December because we are working on a new and better feature for this year.  It will be launched with the next update.  Also, we never said that updates are stopping completely, they are just being delayed due to real life.

(nods) Fair enough. :)

LOL, I was sort of wondering about the AOTW thing, since it hasn't changed since I signed up here, but it had so much there that I didn't care at all. I've looked at it thoroughly 12 times or something, and I like it each time, heh. Was there actually a time you guys put that much different content up EVERY WEEK?!  :o That's... a LOT. Or was that a compilation of all the AOTW that has been posted? In any case, I was just happy to catch that little preview. ;)

And, y'know, you guys have been saying for awhile that this topic is old and overdone, but you're still posting more about it, so I guess you have more to say as well, eh?  :P Well as a newbie who HADN'T heard it before, I found it an interesting historical update.  :suffer:

Vipt and I explained each our views over IM and now we understand each other okay so it ended well.  Yes, I was hurt and I was kinda joking but the joking went too far for everyone and I got the message loud and clear.  Anyway, I have decided to post infrequently now and let other voices be heard.

Hi everyone,

This is the first time I have ever posted to these baords but I have been coming to the site off and on for almost 2 years. I myself have been a fan of the Kings Quest series since I first played KQ1 original on my PCjr way back in the day I know I am showing my age lol. I did not realise how ambitious this project was until I acutaly heard the two sound clips from the game. If what I heard in those clips is what I can expect from the finished game then I can't wait to get my greedy little hands on it. So far it seems like a great script, and some really good voice acting and I love the musical score! I am so looking forward to the day when I can finaly play this game. From what I see of the progress so far this finished game seems like a KQ game that would make Ken and Roberta Williams proud that they created a game series that is so beloved by people all over from every aspect of life young and old. I thank you for your hard work on this game and encourage you to keep it up I know when it is done all the hard work you have all put into it will be worth it and all of us fans honestly do apprciate it.

Welcome KingsQuestFan!

I think you spoke the sentiments of all of us.  I know that some of us can seem impatient at times, but it's just because we're so eager to play the newest King's Quest game, even if it is unofficial. Anyway, we definitely love the team and appreciate all the hard work and time they've dedicated to the project.

KingsQuestFan, I hope you decide to hang around!
