Unfortunately, the new plants that grew looked suspiciously like Audrey from Little Shop of Horrors...

Fortunately, the plants had no teeth and recited poetry and Shakespeare sonnets.

Unfortunately, the plants have such an earsplitting voice, they deafen everyone who hears them utter any phrase.

Fortunately, the plants are considerate and recite the poetry in sign language.

Unfortunately, not everyone knows sign language, so they went back to reading Shakespeare aloud.  "Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?"

Fortunately, the plants learned to control their voices better and now sound (like flowers should) beautiful.

Unfortunately, a surviving family of fopmuffins decided to change their diet to consist solely of the new plant life.

Fortunately, some people were annoyed with the new plant life and were quite happy with this decision.

Unfortunately, most were unaware that some local people had also picked up on Shakespeare's work and began to recite it as well.  "Deny thy father and refuse thy name!  Or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love and I'll no longer be a Capulet."

Fortunately, the locals were driven to the same fate as Romeo, and a peaceful stillness spread across the land.

Unfortunately humans are stupid and will end up getting themselves killed anyway (Pretty much one theme of all zombie movies  ;) )

Fortunately there is a crossbreed of human and cat (called a Thundercat  :P) present in the world that is not as stupid as the rest of the human population and has learned to survive the zombie attack.

Unfortunately, Thundercats are territorial creatures, and are killing off each other.
